Power Awning on new BayStar not working

Well, feeling a little stupid here as I thought I had tried everything on the RV that I purchased in late spring....but I guess I never checked the Power awning. I push the button...plugged into power...just regular house plug while getting ready for trip and nothing happens. No clicking noise...nothing. Is there some other switch that needs to be on that I am missing? JP

Look in the center bay on the passenger side. You should see a white oval shaped (about 4") unit. If I recall, it has a couple of LEDS. It's the controller for the awning and they had a bunch of bad ones. Our friends bought a new Bay Star and had the same issue. It took awhile for the to get a replacement.

I assume you pressed the On switch before pressing the Extend switch.

All good advice above. in addition

check that the breaker for that power is working.
are you using the remote or the switch in the control cab? we had problems with our remote, but the hard wired switch worked.

Well i looked in all of the bays. No oval shaped unit. I also can’t seem to plug into the cable here at Fort Wiilderness....or I should say I can plug into the coax in the bottom rear driver storage area...but I can’t figure out how to get the cable signal to the TVs in the house.

Finally figured out the cable. Awning still dead on both remote and switch. No noise...nothing. Checked fuses in bathroom. Is there another fuse or switch hiding somewhere that impacts the awning. I remember there is supposed to be an anti wind switch or something...but don’t remember where that is either. Oh well i am here for a week...will eventually figure it out or not. BTW the Visio TVs are only supporting 480i...I was expecting 1080i...or is 480i all they do? Thanks again for all the comments. JP

If your awning is a Dometic, the white egg, as they call it, should be mounted to one of the bay walls. I spoke with my friend today, still no new controllers available from Dometic.

There is no on switch. Just a single switch that says Awning- see attached picture.

Time to get out your voltmeter or test light and start tracking it down. Check for 12v at the switch and at the motor. Or try the motor with jumper wires to the battery. Some awning systems have an inline fuse behind the switch. It’s a pretty simple system and you should be able to track down the fault without too much difficulty.

Looked through the passenger side compartments. No oblong switch. Here are pics. WTS the last pic shows a box with wind switch and patio switch etc. is this the domestic controller? Orange lights all appear to be on. Should there be a germ light? Or is there some sort of reset for it? Nothing obvious to me.

Confirmed...the black box is the Dometic control module. So it is there. Now I just need to look at the manual to see what the lights mean.

And now confirmed...no power to the box which means no awning. Looks like a service call is needed.

Hi JP-

Why not call Newmar? Your thread title says "new Baystar". If it's under warranty (or even if it's not) a call to Newmar would be in order.

If you've gone this route and not achieved satisfaction... that explains your post. If not, make this Newmar's problem.

Maybe it's a reflection of the times we live in... nobody expects manufacturers, importers or distributors to support their products anymore. It's a shame because on one hand, we RVers continually complain about the lack of "service" provided but seldom hold their feet to the fire, but on the other had many of us have been strung along or given bad info and understandably think "what's the point?"

I continue to advocate for consumers to not buy products that disappoint them... but in the RV biz, that doesn't seem to work as all the production manufacturers suck to some degree (some far more than other) and people keep buying regardless.
