Pressure regulator??

I put this up yesterday on another post but only got one answer and they weren't sure. My question is that when I did the PDI on my 2017 Ventana the tech told me I no longer needed to carry a pressure regulator because Newmar installed one on their MH's. Does anyone know if this is correct or do I need to get my regulator back out? Thanks, Bill

Bill, have you called Newmar customer service? I think that should be your first call as they are best equipped to give you the correct information.

Nothing was said 2.5 months ago when I took delivery. I'll have to check my hose reel area when I go back outside today because I thought I had observed something in-line that suspiciously looked like a pressure reducer.

I have an adjustable one on the CG outlet with a gauge currently. I have been adjusting it up and have it set on 57 right now.

UPDATE!!! Called Newmar and they said they did not install pressure regulators or surge protectors but recommend them on all MH's. Guess I will get my old regulator back out. Bill

Backflow preventer?

The bronze unit next to the hose real is a back flow preventer in the coaches I have seen. An external regulator is a very good insurance. You can get simple fixed inlines to fully adjustable ones with oil filled gauges. Good source to see them all is www.rvwaterfilterstore.com

I do not know if this is correct, but I would carry one (Watts or Zurin adjustable 1/2 inch or larger with hose fittings) in either case, Explanation follows.

On your city water inlet either A: take and post a photo or B: look at it

IS there a small "Screened" opening likely below the hose fitting? IF so you have a Regulated inlet. IF not.. Well your guess as they say is as good as mine, You'd have to get a view of it behind the benzel.

WHY carry a 2nd one.. and what to set it to

The pressure where I am parked just now is high, like 120 PSI high, and many hoses can not take 120 PSI. so it's been known to blow the ends off the hoses. A "Pre regulator" set to say 70 or 80 PSI will protect the hose without restricting flow (if it's a Big Watts or equil much.

That said I do not currently use a regulator. but I also am not hooked up as I use only tanked water.. There is another issue with the water here and the fix is using the tank to let it "Breath" a bit before I drink .

Taratiffin,

It looks like we got out Motorhome from the same dealer. They told me that Newmar now installs a pressure regulator in the hose reel system.

Guess I have been lucky. Did not use the one I have from the old Motorhome all summer. Guess I had better get it out and dust it off for this year.

I think I will bring this up when I go back to Newmar for warranty work this year.

You got bad info. I know for a fact that the Luxury line and the New Aire have surge protection. So, sounds like bad info.

My understanding from newmar was, the in-line filters provide limited flow. not sure if it eliminated pressure, but it does limit the flow.

Pressure regulators need to be installed ahead of the supply hose, not behind it. That prevents excessive pressure from rupturing the hose. Even if Newmar did install a pressure regulator in its coaches, I would be using a regulator at the park tap point.

Not necessary to place the regulator ahead of the supply hose. It is rated at 150psi so it can take it. Besides, it’s the coach’s lines I’m worried about.

Pressure Regulators

I was at Newmar factory in October with complaint I couldn’t auto fill my tank higher than 2/3 without getting “max time error” message. Technician said it was because I was using pressure regulator. He auto filled without regulator and got it filled. Questioned the need to use regulator and he said wasn’t necessary.

For peice of mind I still use and only fill tank to 2/3.

Great.....this is going to be one of those darn things I will have to completely change my thinking about, like putting the slides out before leveling.
