Progressive EMS Necessary?
WE have a 2011 DSDP with the standard power management system. On our previous coach we installed a progressive EMS hardwired before the transfer switch.
The question is ... should we install another Progressive system or does the existing system installed with the coach supply the same protection?
Thanks
Joe

I don't believe any of the factory systems provide as much protection as a Progressive EMS.

We had one installed in our '05 coach and moved it to our '09. It tripped out leg one of a 50amp hookup this past fall. Maintenance checked it and, yep, leg one was bad. We moved to another site. On same trip it tripped out on low voltage. Once again we had to move but Progressive did it's job.
I bet'cha you get one.

Joe - what you have in your current coach is an energy MANAGEMENT system, not a surge and over/under voltage unit. The management system shuts down some of your electrical appliances (air conditioner, water heater, block heater) if you don't have 50 amp service so you will stay within the amp limits of your power. It does not protect you from the electrical problems that the Progressive unit does. In my opinion the Progressive unit is like insurance: you hope you don't need it but if you do, you're glad you have it. And considering the potential consequences if you don't have it, the Progressive unit is very inexpensive insurance indeed. Lots of folks, including me, have had electrical problems that the Progressive unit caught. I'm a believer. Joel

Hi JoeP,
Yes, you do need another surge protector before the transfer switch. There are several brands to choose from Progressive is one of the brands.

We have had progressive on our 04 and our 07. It is the only one I would buy. It has saved us from several power issues over the years. Can't say the issues would have done damage don't know since the progressive unit cut the power to the coach. Would not leave home without it.

I agree with last posts you need protection for everything including your management system.
