Protecting from winter

I wanted to get opinions regarding extra protection of underside of mh from winter road salt, etc. I realize that the best protection is not to take the mh out when the roads are treated and to wash/rinse the underside when returned from a trip. Has anyone tried Line-X treatment to the underside to get added protection? I don't know too much about that type of product and wondered if it would in fact add protection?

Newmar does an excellent job in adding protective coatings to the underside of the coach. First, before the base chassis is delivered from Freightliner the steel frame rails are coated. The chassis are covered when being shipped in winter months. Newmar adds the STAR foundation and then the entire chassis goes into a paint booth for a coating. After the basement storage compartment floor structure is installed, Newmar then elevates the chassis and applies a heavy undercoating. No short cuts. Adding another coating would not necessarily give added protection. Given that, you still have many metal components that will be affected by salty roads that just can't be coated. For instance the compartment door latches, entry steps, fasteners, engine/transmission components and other exposed items.

In our case Newmar did miss some areas. We had the dealer use some spray on undercoating but it still has corroded. I would definitely recommend factory pickup to deal with just such issues. Newmar would have had the proper equipment and material to fix it right.

We have used the coach all winter since 2008, first in NC and for the past 5 years in New England. Even the areas that were well-coated aren't holding up to the New England salt usage. I've been re-doing areas for the past few years, messy but worth it.

I've never used this particular corrosion protection and would be leery of it unless it had a really good warranty.
