Question for a friend. About his Electrical
My background first, I had a 2001 Holiday Rambler Endeavor 38ft diesel pusher with 4 6 volt batteries and a 1500 watt inverter. Ot turns out my RV was high end and had the bells and whistles except the washer and dryer. I could turn on the inverter and it would power EVERYTHING except the AC units and Microwave.
His is a 2000 Dutch Star, I just helped him replace all 4 6 volt batteries.
My questions are does he have B.I.R.D.? Also his inverter is next to his bed what does it power?
Also if he has B.I.R.D. what should his voltage read after being plugged in for a few days with the battery switch turned off?
Thanks LeeB

Any inverter was optional in 2000. We ordered our 2000 with only the 400 watt inverter and it came with two 75 amp (as I remember) chargers. We had the 400 watt inverter replaced with a 2,500 watt unit and I removed the chargers since the inverter was now doing the charging. I have no idea if it had a BIRD or not. After the install (by CW whom I thought would install it correctly) I could run the refer and heat pumps off the batteries.

There is no way of installing the inverter to run the heat pumps. It would either shut off because of the load or the batteries would die in about 15 minutes if that long.
The wattage needed would be way over what you batteries of inverter could handle!
Now the fridge, yes. But for how long would depend on battery size?
Good luck!

I don't know how many changes, Newmar made between 99 and 2000. But I'll discribe my system. Bird control module is in the power cable bay above the transfere switch. The module will supply charge voltage to the chassis batteries AFTER the coach batteries reach full charge by activating the emergency start solinoid. The original equipment convertor / charger 75watt has a manual high rate charge jumper that must be installed to get 14.2v charge vs 13.2 v maintenance. Original equipment 400 watt invertor, in compartment behind RR wheel, powers only the plugs in the overhead entertainment center and the one in front of the passenger's feet; visible only with stair cover down. The invertor is manual by-pass ; once on shore power I must got to the invertor , remove a plug in and move it to a receptical at the back of the compartment, to avoid constantly draining ;re-charging the batteries, when on shore power.
I'm not sure how your unit is wired but turning the battery switch off while plugged in may isolate the coach batteries from the convertor/ charger.
No reason to turn this off when plugged in.

I never said they would run them for long periods of time, I said they would run them, which it would, 20 min was about it before the inverter shut down due to low voltage.

I have a 300 and a 400. The 400 powers the brick for my 32" Samsung TV up front and the 300 powers the brick for my laptop. I extended both of the on/off switches to the AC ends.

I would follow Skip's & Dunner info as far as inverter for that coach right now.
If the batteries were not fully charged before the install of them than they need to be charged with a stand alone 12v battery charger for Bird system to keep them that way.
Will take to long using coach converter or Gen which is supplying the 110 for converter.
Bird info can be found here and anytime you have shore power line plugged in leave the BCO on to keep all the batteries fully charged, both HOUSE & CHASSIS batteries.
If you have batteries installed correctly you should see the converter supplied, charging the batteries if shore line plugged in, converter may be in same bay with TS and power cord entrance.
