Radiator Surge Tank

Went to Freightliner yesterday to see about getting a replacement tank for my Dutchstar as my mechanic has been telling me that the plastic tank is showing signs of cracks. The local freightliner dealer in Albany NY said the plastic tank has been upgraded to a metal tank. And that new metal tank with new mounting bracket was $861. Does anyone know where I can still get a plastic tank? There must be some dealer or after market Mfg. somewhere that has one sitting on his parts shelf waiting to be sold. I couldn't believe the price difference between the plastic and the new metal tanks. From what I could see you could get a plastic tank for around $130. I could get a lot of plastic tanks for the cost of a metal one.

Would recommend going with metal tank. We have friends who have had to replace 5 or 6 tanks and have a big mess to clean up, plus chance of over heating engine and maybe a tow.
