Hiya! So I'm not sure what you heard--I'm not familiar with a "Newmar sponsored workshop" here in Quartzsite but I would love to know about it if you or anyone here knows what that is.
I *do* know about the Newmar Gathering in the Desert that takes place in the BLM land about 10 miles south of the big tent in Quartzsite every January that begins this Wednesday and runs through Sunday. (The "Big Tent" RV show starts on Saturday.) Many of us also arrive earlier (this past weekend) and participate in various off-road runs with a bunch of 4x4s and some side-by-sides that like to get out and exercise their machines.
I believe registration is closed for this event because off the food and other supplies were purchased some time ago but if this is what you were referring to, you might check in with the rally leaders to see if maybe there was a last-minute cancellation you could take or simply join us anyway (it's BLM land but be prepared to boondock!
) and just expect to feed yourself. You could still attend the seminars, the bonfires, and the live music while you're here and meet a lot of other Newmar folks (I think there are like 105 rigs signed up this year!)
