Rand McNally Navigation

I tried updating the navigation in my 2021 Essex and there was a link to activate traffic, a feature I find very useful when using real navigation systems. When the link didn't work, I wrote to Rand McNally. Their reply is unacceptable. A two year old system is obsolete, and was at end of life when one year old??

Their reply:

Good morning,

Thank you for contacting Rand McNally. Live Traffic is no longer an offered feature. The Xite card is an end of Life product, we no longer produce. It received it’s last update last year.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thank you,

This started happening a while ago, here is some reading of what River Park came up with after RM got out...... https://www.irv2.com/forums/f42/new-...ps-590779.html

We purchased the NavNGo SD card from RiverPark in Dec. 2022 and have been running it for about 6mos. There have been a couple of hiccups but Xite has had excellent customer support. What I found was that you have to read the manual to get the full benefit of the NavNGo GPS.
There are several features that I like in this program that RM didn’t have and that was traffic detours. Since the Xite is connected to the internet (we use our phones) we get live traffic. One example is we were traveling from Foley, AL to Biloxi, MS before the tunnel at Mobile AB, it took us off I-10 at US 98 to US90 to I-165 to I- 65 back to I-10. When checking the traffic on the GPS it said indefinite delay at the tunnel.
Another feature and there are several is setting your max speed. We set ours at 62 mph. Why is this important, because eta’s are calculated using the speed limits on highways. So if you are traveling on an interstate that has a 75mph speed limit it calculates the eta’s at 62 mph not 75 mph.
We use RV Trip Wizard for trip planning. They use HERE maps so does the NavNGo gps. So the routes are more similar than with RM. The difference is in NavNGo we use truck setting, which only directs us on truck routes.
My suggestion if you decide to go this route is to wipe your hard drive (brain) and relearn using a GPS. Follow the manual and explore the sub menus.

NEVER DO SOFTWARE UPDATES!!! I had one for my prior coach for a wifi ranger. It froze the system. Tech support said my hardware was too old for the software update they kept bugging me to do.

I gave up with that GPS in my motorhome.
We use Google Maps on the phone. I just wish it would have an audible alert when we get close to a slow down.

The only issue with Google Maps is my coach has programmed in it our coach's parameters so as to avoid low clearances and bridges that have load limits. We have seen differences in Google Maps and our onboard GPS due to a narrow bridge near Duluth, MN.

I broke down a few weeks ago and bought the new G4 version of the Xcite system from Riverpark. My chip slot broke and the old G3 unit was pretty well fried. That along with no more Rand McNally support helped me bite the bullet and do it.

The new NavNGo GPS system is decent, but does not have the versatility of loading a chip with a route then uploading. All map updates are updated by wifi in the rig and all route planning is done on the screen in the rig. I do miss the old Rand McNally Trip maker.

The new system was rather pricey around $1500 but I'm glad I did it. It was fairly easy to yank the old hardware out and to replace it with the new G4 version. There is no chip for the newest G4 system - its all loaded at Riverpark on the hardware.
