RC7-GS won't start generator
Our 2002 DSDP came with the Xantrex/Trace RV2012 2000 Watt unit with the RC6 remote panel inside my coach. I've replaced the remote with an RC7-GS unit and added the necessary signal wires per Xantrex. The remote will NOT start the gen set, it will shut it down though. We have the PowerTech 8.0KW gen set.
I'm at work right now so I can't check the settings but on one something will click but it's the wrong one according to Xantrex support. On the correct one (3 wire as I remember) it doesn't do a thing but shut it down. All the readings work, just not the start circuit. With Xantrex's help I've shorted across terminals at the inverter and it'll start from there
Any ideas?
Someone once told me that Newmar bought the inverters without the start capability and installed them in units that weren't ordered with the auto start. Anybody know the answer? Newmar didn't when I called about it.

I can't help you out on this one but, I don't think Newmar will make a coach unless it is on order. I don't believe they make units for stock, at least that's what I was told when I took the plant tour. Jim

Mr_D,
I have no answers; however will be watching the thread since I have been very interested in adding remote start to my PowerTech generator, the dogs need it when dry camping.
It seems like it should be an easy fix since the generator-start should only require the same signal as the manual switch provides... that, or course, is a momentary switch/signal. Have you put a VOM on the suspected start circuit/wire to see if a signal/voltage is sent when the sending unit is supposed to be sending a start signal? This is a rhetorical question, I don't need the answer if you have considered it.
Was it difficult to add what wiring you have added to this point? I was told that it required a lot of wiring to be run to the generator.
When I called PowerTech they told me they were working on an autostart for their generators, but apparently don't have one yet.
Onan has a neat wireless unit that appears to only work on Onan... another reason I want to upgrade the current motorhome...
BTW, in case your not aware of it, there is (or should be...) a setting on the T-Stat, with dip switches, that will start the generator dependent on temperature. That, of course, requires some wiring.

They don't, (we've ordered two so far) but that wasn't the question I asked, are you answering the right thread?

Have you talked to Xantrex?

Yes, I've talked to Xantrex, it's in my first post.
The required wiring is just a couple 16 GA wires to transmit signals to the RC7-GS. I've gone through everything with Xantrex support and still won't work.
Our T-stat is the older 5 button unit, not the newer one that incorporates the temp control. Would have to change the T-stat and boards in the heat pumps to add that.

Yes, I saw that you mentioned talking to Xantrex when I proofread my post so I made an edit and deleted that question.
My T-stat is an older one also, but has the dip switches for the temp signal. I don't think it was state in any of the manual information, but when I removed mine to have it rebuilt I saw the dip switch settings.
