Rear Bedroom Slide

Hello All,
After camping in Lake George for the last 5 days in our 2014 Dutch Star 4018 Noticed the rear Bedroom Slide came in very slow.??
We left the campground and after turning left someone came right up to us and said your slide is out !!

Pulled over and all we heard was the motor running no movement,,,
Oh boy 335 miles to go home and no Slide….

I called the customer service number and a Gentleman Named MIKE called us right back and walked me through the problem.

He told me to pick up the bed matters and look for the motor and shaft assembly, we found it after pushing the slide in and out and found the 1 1/4 nut had come loose on the shaft next to the bushing that the motor turns.

He told me to tighten it to 145 Ft Lbs but with no pipe wrench we got it tight enough with Channel locks enough to get it in so the locks would catch.

Very much appreciated the Help on the side of the road on a Sunday..

Thanks Mike !!

Yep--- I now carry a 1 1/4" crows foot for such events.... happened once on the LR slide and I had to borrow a wrench to tighten it up from the CG maintenance guy.

Having same issue: here is a picture of mine. Have crows foot, have broken nut, directions are to hit bushing, but which way, am I to only hit sleeve covering bushing or the whole bushing. Looking for guidance.

You need more leverage fined a pipe to extend off the crows foot handle you do not want to break the fitting than you will need a new one, which has info in this link, the link maybe torqued at 145 ft lbs so you need more leverage to brake lose.
There are two torques of your main shaft on LR slide of 125 & 145 ft lbs.
You can get all this info in same link for the slide systems section.

Terry you may have to remove the motor mounting screws if shaft does not release from shaft to cog drive wheel.

Just a quick question on the back bedroom slide motor/gearbox. Mine is popping some and needs a manual push going in and out. I have tightened the transtorque bushing and believe it might be a broken or worn down gear/tooth in the large silver gear housing between the motor and output shaft..

Can you buy just a gear rebuild kit only ... or do you have to replace the complete unit including the motor??

If gear kits are available ... does anybody have a lead. Mine is the K01176G100 / Newmar 118883

Thanks

Steve

Steve, you most likely broke a tooth off a gear. I just replaced our bed slide motor assembly.

We heard the pop when we put the slide in leaving for Hoots, got here and the bed stopped after a foot. $530 for the new slide motor and gear box.

You start by cracking the nut loose, do not back it all the way off. Once it just pops loose from tight, hit the big round put of the shaft (right in front of the nut). Do this till the transtorque bushing loosens. The nut and transtorque bushing will all slide out as one.

There is a lip that holds the nut and bushing together.

John ... thanks I think that is exactly my problem. Will pull the gear cover off tomorrow and see. Where did you get your unit? I am starting the internet search for one tonight. Too bad you can't just replace the broken gear instead of the entire unit.

Steve

I had Brooks order it from Newmar.

I'm going to see if a machinist friend of mine can recreate the gears, for the fun of it.

Thanks Sidewinder, I'll order those and have a spare.

Doubt I'll need it, but might be able to help somebody else out.
