Exclamation Recommended FIRST Year DP Service

I've got a 2015 Newmar Ventana 4037. It's coming up on it's first year in two months. It will be at Newmar in March to handle a couple of warranty items.

While there I figured I'd save myself some trouble and have Newmar perform the yearly engine oil, filters and generator service I always have had done on my past coaches.

Newmar sent me an Excel spreadsheet with the list of "Recommended" 12 month services and asked me to check off what I wanted. If I checked off everything, it would cost $6,690.79!

What do you typically have done as regular maintenance at the 1 year mark on a new Diesel Pusher on a Freightliner chassis?

Thanks!

The 12 month service requirements are in your Freightliner manual. Did you miss the 6 month service? It's also in the manual.

I did my one year service at Freightliner in Gafney SC. The cost was below $1000. It included all filters and lube on engine, chassis and Onan generator. I have no idea of what the rest of your estimate includes but would be very interested in seeing your spreadsheet.

Service

Wow, that's pricey. If you have a Speedco near you they can save you a bunch. To change the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, lube everything and check the differential oil on my Cummins ISM was less than $250. If your generator is on a slide out (or if you can access the driver side of the generator to get to the oil filter) then changing that oil is a snap. Good luck.

Check your dates. You probably missed the engine, etc, 12 month service because they are based on the date Freightliner built the chassis, NOT the date you bought your coach. My in service date was 2/19/15 but the chassis date was August 2014 so I did all my chassis service in August 2015. The generator and Oasis are due next month because Newmar installed those. Based on those estimates from Newmar you should run as fast as you can to a Freightliner or Cummins shop asap.

Newmar pusher,

Had my freightliner work completed at Cruzans Freightliner here in NJ. They do all my scheduled maintenance and records all work in the Freightliner system. They did not come even remotely close to that fee Newmar is quoting, wow that is expensive. I just went over 20k miles on my coach and the Cruzan's crew keep me in good shape.

Here is the spreadsheet. About half of that cost was house related stuff and half chassis.

I'm looking for advise on what's reasonable to check off besides Generator service, and engine oil change for a Freightliner chassis.

Thanks.

Thanks KenNJ. Cruzans Freightliner is a bit of a trek for me from northern NJ though. I had good luck with a local Freightliner service center here with the crooked steering wheel last year so that's where I'll probably going forward.

Still not sure what a reasonable "complete" service entails. My previous Winnebago DP was always serviced at a very good dealer in Lakewood, NJ. I always just asked to do and engines oil/filters, Generator service and "whatever else was called for" every year. It was always well under a $1000.00 including a wash.

I agree, if you have a local Freightliner that is the best option. The key for me was my local guy gave me documentation on the items done which is always nice if you run into a warranty item. For me man I love this chassis and the Cummings engine is really performing well.

Now if this darn snow would go away and march would get here we could both head out camping already.

Hope all is well up your way

Newmar isn't in the business of doing chassis service so I'm betting they price the work high and sub it out. They really don't want to say no, but most people won't pay what they want.
I'd never even ask them and find an outside shop to do the work. When we had Dutch Stars we just had work on the house portion. The front axle change was handled by Spartan at their factory.

I second the take it to Gaffney SC to Freightliner advice. The prices on the spread sheet are too much.
