Refer warms up while driving
I have a 2003 mountain Aire with a Norcold 1200LRIM. It has been working fine while stationary. We just got back from a three week trip and while traveling, the temperature in the refer would rise to about 50*F. Once we parked, it would cool back down to 38 - 40*F. Just before we got home, I started getting NO AC fault codes while running the generator. I varified that I had 120 vac at the refer outlet.
I suspect that I have a bad element and have blown the 5 amp AC fuse on the power board causing the fault. As for warming up while driving, could the fans not running cause this? I have not had time to check the fans yet. I'm just trying to find out where I should begin looking for problems that may cause these conditions.
Thanks for any help.
Bill
P.S. This was our first trip since purchasing this coach. Therefore,I don't have any history on the refer's operation.

I assume your on Propane. If your on shore power when you stop then maybe your Propane system goes out or did not lite.

I had no fault indicating that the propane was not working.

I have the same problem with my Dometic 1402. My problem is the refer is in the slide and therefore the upper vent must go out the side rather than the top. When traveling the air rushes in the top vent preventing the venting.

I'm having the same problem, I found this thread that made a lot of sense to me. I resealed the back of my refrig but I haven't had a chance to check it out to see if it helped.

Pretty much describes the way my Norcold behaved the whole 10 years I had it. I used to treat it more like a cooler when traveling making sure I had an ice block for back up.

Ours works with out this issue. However it has recently chosen not to light off from a complete shut down. Just out of curiosity Ron pulled the fuse on the control board and then put back in and it instantly lit off. The fuse was still in good shape!!!

Well, I found out why my refer is was not working on AC power. The 5 amp fuse (F3) was blown on the power board. Replaced the fuse and now it's working on electric. I checked the resistance of the heaters. They both measured 46 ohms. That is a bit low, but may be my meter is in error.
I was not able to get to the fans on the rear of the unit to check them without pulling the unit out. I didn't want to get into that just now. I thought about installing a couple of computer fans just inside the lower vent cover to pull air in to see if that will help keep the refer cold while going down the road. Do you think this will help?
Thanks for all of the replies.
Bill

I had the same exact problems with my 2 different Norcold 1200 I had in my previous 2 coaches. Unless the ambient weather is cool <50 degrees F , they don't cool good while on the road!
I solved the problem by going to an all electric coach on my new MADP. What a treat to have good cold-36 degree F ice tea & beer! And as an added feature - your ice cream in the freezer section below is nice & hard.
No more warm food & beer & no more fire hazard from the Norcold wantabe refers !!!!
Happy Trails
