Refrigerator - Operation Underway ?
I have a Newmar 2009 DSDP coach with 9' Dometic AC/Propane refrigerator.
Is it acceptable to operate the refrigeration while underway fueled by propane or is it not a good idea? Assuming your underway for 8 or so hours.
Our refrigerator does not have a DC option but I am wonder why it would not operate (maintaining temp) with AC Sine power from the inverter. Unless it was never wired with that capability.
Any help will be appreciated.

We have been RVing for over 30 years and have always traveled with RV fridge running on propane till we switched to a residential fridge which we run on the inverter when on the road. You will hear other RVer's saying it is on safe to do so but a lot and maybe most do.

All the RVs that I've had I have used them on propane while traveling. Jim

You just want to turn off the flame while you are fueling up.

We travel with the refer on propane all the time. I turn it off when re-fueling. No issues with the last 3 motorhomes. Good luck..

We leave our fridge on Auto all of the time. When we disconnect from shore power to automatically goes toropane and stays there till we hook up again at the next camp site.
Let the system do what it was designed to do.

Benn RVing since 1996 and have alway run the fridge on propane while going down the road. Never a problem. They are designed to work ths way.
Have switched to a residential fridge so now running on the inverter or generator while underway.

Our current DSDP has a residential refrigerator. Our prior coach was a 1999 Holiday Rambler and we always ran the refrigerator on propane anytime not hooked up on shore power. Occasionally, we would loose the flame and would need to restart the refrigerator. Until we bought a battery operated monitor, the DW would check the refrigerator every coupe of hours while on the road.

Exactly the same as the above post as this is the most logical/simple thing to do. No reason to make a simple process complicated. We also monitor our freezer/fridge temps whether we're moving or stationary with one of these and it comes with (2) sensors instead of the usual (1). Works very well I might add.

Been RV'ing since 1957. Always run my refers on propane when underway.
The propane system is designed, built, tested and certified to be used while underway. BUT do turn the refer OFF when refueling. I don't because we use the truck lanes and only diesel there so not much happens with diesel. Even the truckers leave their refer generator running while fueling and they're usually propane powered.

Refrigerator - Underway
I would like to thank everyone for your experiences with operating the refrigerator while underway. We leave this weekend for Nappanee to have work done on our coach and it's our first road trip - first time for non-AC refrigerator use.

I've heard horror stories, so I just turn off the propane and let the fridge operate like an ice chest.
