Regeneration: Automatic or manual
Has there been any Threads explaining how to tell if automatic regeneration is going on, and when, or if necessary how to tell if it's necessary and if so how to do it manually?
Also, is there any kind of filter in the DEF system and if so, where is it and how often should it be changed? Had this 2015 DS for 2 years and still in the dark about many things.

Mine has a light that comes on when it is doing an auto regen. As long as you are going highway speeds so the exhaust is hot while this is going on you should not have to do a manual regen. The trouble comes if you are driving slow and not getting the exhaust hot enough or stop and shut down before it is finished too many time then the DPF will clog. Ther are some good videos on you tube that explain the entire process. DPF stand for Diesel Particulate Filter. That is what is being cleaned during a regen.

I just came from a two day Freightliner class and the system regenerates without you ever noticing. It would be very very rare if you ever had to do a manual regen. There's not even a button to do a manual regen. You'd have to disconnect the harness to "force" a manual regen. I would not worry about it.

About the only way you'll SEE it doing and auto regen, is when the DEF gauge drops and you need to add more.

Thanks a lot Guys, that's one thing I shouldn't have to worry about then. Practically all of my driving is at Interstate speed, but unless the temperatures outside are pretty warm it seems my temperature gauge never gets above the 1/4 mark. I was always used to seeing my Cat engine setting about the 1/2 mark unless going up a mountain grade.

In 2 years I have never seen mine do a regen. My temp gauge also normally sits around 1/4 but gets up to 1/2 when climbing a mountain.

On my maiden first big trip last year with our 2015 DSDP the DEF particulate light came on as we were driving slowly through Yellowstone.
We parked at Grizzly on the West side and I thought I'd have to do a manual regen.
After making a bunch of calls I understood that I simply needed to get up to cruising speed to get the auto regen started.
Did that and never had that problem again.
I was told that if i was going to go slow for and extended period of time to downshift and keeps RPMS up

Regen light comes on on my rig. There's also a dash switch to do a manual one when called for.
I saw the regen light come on dozens of time hundreds of miles before the valve broke and they discovered a cracked DPF. Don't know if the two are related.
