Remote Generator Hours Meter

This could be a little bit of a Freightliner issue too...

I like to document generator hours between fuel fill ups. I know there is a meter on the generator that I could use but that would be a PITA. I've noticed a couple things that made me think about what I could do.

The first is that the dash LBCU has a setting for generator hours. That display shows zero hours so it doesn't appear to be used.

The other thing is that I have some 2012 schematics of the DigiLevel system and it shows a wire for generator hours. However, the display doesn't seem to show that information.

In a perfect world I would like a digital meter that I can reset back to zero after I fill the fuel tank up. I haven't seen such a device yet.

I am not against adding a meter to my control panel area. Otherwise, I would like to see if it could be connected to the LBCU.

Any one have any suggestions?

I have a little PostIt pad sitting on the shelf below the gages. I stuff it in my pocket with a pen when I go out to fuel. I get the fuel going, then open the genset and check its oil, and write down the generator hours on the next blank page under the top page that has my last fill hours. I'm a little organized, and a lot cheap.

If you figure it out...please let us know.

I spoke to one of the techs covering the Freightliner exhibit at FMCA, and asked Why it didn’t work. He replied that Newmar didn’t order the option. I asked if it could be connected...and he said it was one of those things best done during the build. Getting to it now would be a difficult thing to address. I am now sure what that meant.

I asked the tech at Newmar when I was there for service and he was clear this could not be done to the LBCU.

Mike Cody the training guru at FL might know.

I too tried to get it connected in 2013 and head dead ends. If anyone has a solution for an In-Cab meter I would be very interested. I too like to track the usage to compute the actual fuel consumption.
