Removing engine access panel in rear bath
I need to remove the engine access panel in the rear bath on a 4018 and assume the two black plugs have bolts under them but is there anything else holding that plate down? Can't see anything under the floor of the counter, does that lower wooden panel have to be removed in order to reach under the counter floor and if so how does it attach?

On my '14 King Aire the removable piece of the floor is surrounded by aluminum trim which came up with the floor piece. Under the plastic plugs there are pretty good sized hex head self drilling screws. Once the floor section is removed there is a steel cover also also fastened with screws. you will see top front of the engine after that is removed.

Great. Then I assume the floor plate is held down by just the screws under those plugs? Ours has the aluminum trim around the floor plate also.
Appreciate knowing what to expect once the screws are removed.

Allen.....I looked at my fan drive today and it was spraying oil and making a mess. I'm pretty sure mine is coming from the filler/breather cap and I'm willing to bet, so is yours. "Jim L", reminded me that he had the same issue. The fix is covered under warranty. They add a 14" rubber hose to the breather and then tie it down near the top of the fan. I'm going to repair mine next month.

This was happening in 2011 and into 2012 and it was determined by Freightliner that the gear boxes where over filled.

I just got confused. Mike and Don, how does spraying engine oil tie in with opening the rear floor hatch?

Gary, the oil is coming from the side radiator fan drive gear box and trying to reach the filler hole to add more oil if necessary seems to be easier by removing the floor plate to reach the gear box from above instead of from the rear engine opening or from crawling underneath.
Don, do we dare assume the gear box has been overfilled causing this leakage out and that only the overage will leak out but not cause the gear box to run low on oil? On my previous coach (Itasca Meridian with 330 HP Cat engine and rear radiator ) the sealed fan hub bearing had a history of running dry letting the fan wobble into the radiator consequently tearing up a lot of stuff. Has anyone heard anything about this gear box ever running dry and what damage could it do if this occurance would happen?
I spent about an hour this afternoon washing off all the oil runoff on and around the gearbox so I'll try to keep a close watch for any new oil spray.

No....I still think you'll have an issue, until the extension tube is added.
