Thumbs up repainting 1997 newmar

I am looking to see the cost and the pro's and con's for repainting my coach. the biggest problem is the graphics are fading and there are some bumps and bruises on the storage lockers. I think a repaint of the graphics and a repaint of the storage areas would do it.
thx in advance Mike

I too have a 1997 Newmar (DSDP) and just looked in to having either the grapics redone or having a full body paint done. The graphics would have cost about $3500. This was to remove the old, sand the areas where the old grapics were removed, and paint on new ones in the same pattern. This would alleviate the fading over time of the vinyl graphics but would not do much to update the looks of the coach. For a full body paint to include all of the removing of old graphics, sanding, priming, minor body repairs, and painting with 3 colors was going to be about $9,000. This would definitly update the looks of the coach and we are considering having this done as we are not looking to replace it anytime soon. The third option we had was to have the old graphics removed and replaced with new vinyl ones. This would be the least expensive option but, again, would not update the looks of the coach and these graphics would again fade over time.

Hope this helps.

Boh

Don, what level of paint job did you get? I checked the web site and they have some nice looking paint jobs. I'd like to get one done too one of these days.

We have not had ours done (yet), but I have seen the excellent work that Phoenix Painting does and their prices are really competitive.

repainting

We had a level 2 done plus lots of little extra labor things done to arrive at that price.

I had my 2000 Mt.Aire which was paint and graphics redone in a full body paint with 3 color graphics, Diamond Shield on the front and new awning material for 4 awnings for about 13k.. truly made the coach look like a new one. the work was done by Precision Painting in Bremen In. In the long run it saved me a ton of money because I had the new RV itch !!

Welcome oldielocks to irv2.
I would guess its up to you and money to be spent.
A full paint job will be expensive plus your time.
If its just panels on doors may work to do just them and change the color in lower compartment door area around the coach.
If your upper fiberglass is white you could just polish that area to dress it up.
Enjoy the forums and do post often.

We had our 1999 Gas Mt. Aire repainted 2 1/2 years ago. We are still getting compliments on the looks of our motorhome to this very day. The one mistake we made was not getting diamond shield on the front. We had ours painted at Mike's Custom Paint in Breman, Indiana. We have been very happy with the 3 color design and finished product. If you are planning on holding on to your unit we say go for it.

Some people that have the Diamond Shield wish they didn't. After a few years mold starts under the edges and the only way to get rid of it is to take the shield off. Friends had it on their 2004 DSDP and got a bug stain that couldn't be removed. Ended up scratching the coating trying and then couldn't get the shine back.

The Newmar factory will do a complete repaint of my '02 DSDP 3852 for just under $10k, but they won't take in used coaches for repaint that have vinyl graphics, only 100% painted coaches. Best, John
