Replaced summer loop and it’s running?

Ok replaced summer loop pump.....

I was wondering how I would test it. We are still winterized so no water in use.

However when I powered things back no fuse blown....good but the pump started up. How do you shutdown the summer loop when not needed?

I leave the heating loops on low over the winter when I winterized.

If you have "the heating loops on low," then the pump is doing its job. It circulates the heat transfer fluid through the heat exchangers that provide coach interior heat, along with providing hot water.

Since your system has been down for a while, it will take some time for the heat transfer fluid to come up to normal temperature. The pump will run during that time, and anytime the interior temp of the coach drops below the thermostat set point.

Sounds like you have solved your problem.

The summer loop heats the hot water. It will run until the water is up to temperature. It does not circulate fluid through the coach interior.

I know there has been some discussion in the past about how the system should be left when not in use. There was some blame being placed on the system design that said the summer loop pump may run, when there was no demand for heat.

Knock on wood.....but for seven years, (5 years with a 2014 DS and 2 years with 2019 DS), I've never had a pump failure. My routine.....I turn the system on at the Oasis unit, the day we leave on a trip. When we arrive at the campground, I put out the slides and turn on which ever heating element I think I need for the weather. When we depart to move to another campground, I bring in the slides and turn off the electric element(s) and or the diesel burner. The next campground, I repeat the same procedure. On the last day of the trip, I turn the outside unit off before we break camp or when we get home and park the coach.

I do a very similar procedure. Unfortunately, I had one of the “known” defective pumps in the summer loop and replaced it with the new model pump. The two pumps in the coach heating circuit are working ok but they are very seldom used as we have heated floors and a fireplace which, when working together, have kept us cozy in very low temperatures.

Yes, I believe you are correct. I meant to indicate that it would take a while for the water to come up to temp, but my fingers outran my brain.

I was concerned for cold weather storage operation with the loops heating the coach but no need for heating water. Would the summer loop come on during the colder months?

Will discuss with the vendor. How to leave heat on inside with no risk of the summer loop coming on.

Don - What do you mean when you say "on at the Oasis unit..." Does this mean something different from the switch overhead at the entry? I thought off there also meant off at the unit in its bay.

I would like to know that answer myself.

There is an on/of button on the front of the Oasis unit itself. This turns the entire unit off, not just the electric elements and/or the diesel burner.

Summer Loop pump runs whenever boiler is at or above 140 degrees F to make domestic hot water. If you’re using the Oasis to heat Coach, Summer Loop will run. Suppose you could pull fuse for that pump as a work-around. I learned this because my hydrostat controlling summer loop pump went bad and pump was running even with cold boiler.
ITR is super helpful over the phone...

Yes I’ve come to the conclusion I will need to pull the fuse. I did get that message from ITR on when hot it recirculates. I would have thought if no water is called for then no summer loop pump.

Thanks for the followup.
