Replacement for Dish VIP722k
Our 2nd Dish VIP722k in 9 months is about to fail. Dish doesn’t retail it any more, but will replace it with a refurb unit, which I suspect will again fail in an unreasonably short time, since it’s in our ‘18 DSDP which is a hostile environment.
I’m looking to update the system, but get completely confused by “Hoppers”, “Joeys”, and “Wallys”. We want at least a two tuner dvr with hdmi out to the bedroom tv, and the capability of integrating OTA signal into it. We only watch one tv so I don’t think we need a joey since we have an hdmi cable back to the bed tv.
Anyone accomplished this update?

Just get the Hopper...I believe it’s 3 tuners.. You only need a Joey if you’re going to be using 2 TVs on different channels

As far as I know, the only option for an RV is the Wally. It has one tuner so you will need one for each TV. They cost $7.00 per month. You can add a hard drive from Dish ($100) and record programs. Depending on which antenna you have, you might only be able to get the channels (Satellite) that your main TV is tuned to. No hopper, no 2 tuner boxes.
Just call Dish Outdoor and they will explain it all to you.

You can use two Wallys only if your dome has two coax outputs and then they both have to be locked on the same satellite.
Wallys only cost $7/month if you have Dish at home.
You can buy the same hard drive to use for a DVR from Walmart for much less than Dish charges and then pay the $40 one time fee to Dish.
The Wally has a RF remote that is much superior to the IR remote in your old receiver.
Plus, the Wally runs much cooler than your old receiver.
Just get the Wally.

You can put anything to want in your RV. It’s just that I believe Dish would not recommend a DVR type receiver because they believe RVs are too hard on the disk drives. That’s why they suggest the non DVR units, VP211, Wally, and support a customer owned external HD.

What satellite dish do you have? That will factor heavily on what you can do.
If you have a Trav’lr you can go with a Hopper w/ Sling. You can add Joey’s later if you ever decide.
The Hopper 3 would require a modification to your dish LNB.

My 5 year old 211K Dish Receiver just died Tuesday. I replaced it this evening with a Wally. In my 16 Dutch Star configuration for the equipment, the Wally is almost half the size of the 211k. I like that part a lot and it has a lot of upgraded features for accessing other things like Apps, Netflix etc.
It was $69.00

I currently have a Trav'lr SK-1000 dish with a ViP722k HD DVR receiver. The dish connects to the receiver via a single coax cable to a "diplexer"(?), which splits the input signal to the two tuners.
The receiver HDMI output is wired directly to the main TV with a (user installed) HDMI cable. The other three TVs receive SD via coax from the Quest box.
Can anyone (simply) explain how the input/output connections would work with a Hopper and/or Wally?
