Replacing ceiling speakers

I plan to replace the tiny ceiling speakers on my 2007 Kountry Star with 6-7 inch round ones.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has already done this to find out if there any obstacles I will find when I enlarge the headline holes.

Use care when cutting the headliner. There can be wires and/or ductwork directly above the headliner material. All the best.

If you have a floresent light in area drop it to see what is in ceiling, you do have a AC vent duct up there do not want to cool ceiling.

Good idea 007 - I will try that on my two front lights to see if there is a way to pull a new wire - only have 2.3V at the front fixture. I sure learn a lot here. Thanks.

I replaced mine with 4" and am very happy with the results. Make sure your new speakers will fit in the opening depth wise. There is not a lot of space. With speakers that big check your placement compared to the roof structure. Several of my originals were placed close to roof supports.

If its your florescent light your talking about light works off 12v but ballast increases to 110 lighting for bulbs.

I have replaced the speakers in my 05 Kountry Star twice. First time I went with decent quality 4" speakers and they really sounded poor. If you want anything more than noise then I would suggest a bigger speaker. However, clearance above the ceiling is an issue. So I did a lot of research and found HTD speakers (link below) had suitable dimensions. So I visited their facility to listen to them and they sound pretty good, especially at only $65 each!

HD-R65 In-Ceiling Speakers

I was able to simply pull out the existing speakers, cut a bigger hole and install the new units. I did not try to replace the existing wiring (which is not very good quality speaker wire) because it seemed like it would be a lot of work.
