Replacing Radio

One of the projects I intend to do this winter is to replace my Jensen VR-185 radio. I know that along with the radio Head Unit, I'll also have to change the Sirius Tuner to match the new radio. A question for those who have replaced their VR-185, did you have to replace the satellite antenna too, or did the original antenna connector work with (plug into) your new tuner?? Thanks for any info!

How does the Sirius tuner connect to your current head unit? Look at the tuner's connections and see how they input. You should be able to use your satellite tuner with a new head unit that has the same inputs.

You can use the existing Sirius antenna.

lhill...we have an '06 DutchStar with the same radio setup and I'd like to replace ours this winter as well. Would love to hear how your project goes...good luck,

Antenna

I switched from Sirius to XM and was still able to use the same antenna. I wanted to use an external XM radio that I already had. No problem. There was an extra 15 feet of wire coiled up and tie-wrapped to the Sirius box.

Okay, got it done. I bought a Sony CDX-GT565 SiriusXM ready radio and a V200 Vehicle Tuner Kit from a local BestBuy store. I removed the Jensen, fabricated a "filler" out of plexiglass and installed the new radio. The existing wiring from the Jensen matched the color codes for the Sony, so I just used solderless splices to hook the Sony wiring to the old wiring. I also used the existing satellite antenna with the new tuner....everything worked out well and it sounds great! A very easy mod to do. Scratch this from the list....now to tackle the microwave vent rattle.....
