Replacing Shock Absorbers

I replaced my shocks when I bought my coach about 8 years ago when I also replaced my tires and added centramatic wheel balancers. Is there an age that you all would replace shocks? Or wait for a failure? Can a shop tell if they are still good?

I use the 25,000 mile rule for all my vehicles.

Shock degrade slowly so as long as they are not leaking no one pays much attention to them and will accept the ride as normal for the life of the vehicle.

25k. Wow! Iíd be changing every year. I think that the quality of todayís shocks are much much better than that.

You would hope but not realistic in my experience.

Maybe down south where the roads are a lot smoother but up here in the NE We kill shocks with our roads.

One good way to check if shocks are working well is drive the coach for a half hour or when on next trip use a infra-red temp gauge and check the shocks at low point. A good working shock should be 20 or more degrees warmer then the rest of the metal parts close to the shocks. When shocks are working well they build up heat as the shock goes up and down when driving which cause shock to heat up. Same temp means no friction so shock is leaking interior of housing.
