Replacing the EGR valve
On a 2015 4018 Dutch Star if the EGR valve has to be replaced is it reachable from the rear or does it have to be through the floor in the rear bath? My "malfunction indication dash lamp" came on for one day and off the next on the way home from Nappanee and some internet posts information indicates it might be a defective EGR valve. I haven't contacted FL yet to get a code read or what they might suggest be done but just trying to cross some bridges before I get to them as it will be a 100 mile one way trip to reach a shop.
Thanks for any help here.

The early EGR Cummins engines had problem with the EGR valve but that doesn't seem to be that way now. We have a 2004 500 ISM and had 3 EGR valve replaced in the first 60K miles. With the latest ERG valve replacement we are now at 125K. Have used a water/methanol system which keeps intake system clean and that I think helps. I am thinking it isn't the EGR valve but some other sensor.

Golly, 3 in that short mileage. A person would think some bells would go off someplace and someone would be looking to get better replacements. Is it very easily reached, like on autos it's right on top in the center of the engine and takes about 5 minutes to replace it.

We had a 2015 with the 450ISL engine and the EGR check engine light would come on for a while then would go out later. We were staying at Disney Fort Wilderness and I called the Cummins dealer and they sent a service truck to our site and it turned out to be a software reprogram.

How great of Cummins. Wouldn't I love to have them send a service truck to my back yard instead of me having to drive to either Tulsa (100 miles) or Wichita (90 miles).

I was shocked when they said they would come to my site. We had problems with the light coming on and off for about 4K miles then after they reprogrammed we put another 19k without any problems. We have since traded unit.

As far as cost to replace the EGR valve on a 500 ISM engine is 1500 $ for part kit and 1500 $ labor. They also have to clean the EGR tubing and other related parts.

Your EGR would still be covered under warranty as it is part of the 5 year emissions warranty.

What part of the Cummins ISL 450 HP engine is the EGR valve located in? Is it accessible from the rear on a side radiator?
Was contacted by a FL rep today and he didn't think the shop could do anything if the light wasn't on but said to take it in to them anyway.
