Replacing the roof on my 04' Dutchstar
Call me crazy for tackling this myself but I finally got it done. I've replaced the rubber roof on my Dutchstar... I'd had a leak in the rear right corner of the roof on my Newmar Dutchstar for several years that I sealed with Eternabond tape...they don't call it Eternabond for nothing because it was a bugger to get removed...
I was wanting to replace the minimal solar I had on the roof and it made no sense to do that with the damage I knew about up there so the roof needed to be done. Oh and I also discovered that there was black mold in the roof in the plywood sheathing. Not to surprising but I got it taken care of too.
I got quotes from several places, including Newmar in Napanee but getting to Indiana was just not in the plan and I was pretty sure I could DIY this but needed a covered shop to work in because I KNEW as soon as I got the roof off it was going to rain... and it did!
Well the stars and moon aligned and I found a shop to use and the rest is history. I did record this as part of my RV How To series of videos and posted the first of 4 episodes this morning.
You can check out the project on my YouTube channel...

Thanks for watching...see ya down the road somewhere.

I need to do the same on mine. What was your estimated hours to do it?
Did you replace all the plywood underneath or just the damaged?
I’ll be watching the videos. Thx.

You have to replace the plywood. The old roof does not come off easily at all, in fact it was a little harder than I thought it would be to get the sheathing removed. You'll see in the video the problem with removing the rubber.
I reveal the time and cost in the last episode, but it was 70 hours of work *(by myself) and total materials cost under $1500.
Thanks for watching!

It may have been, I'm not sure Gary. I researched roof rubber for quite a while and EDPM seemed to be the best choice for my application. Pretty easy to apply and trim out.

flyfishidaho, thank you so much for documenting this, I am following your videos on YT anxiously. I have a 2000 DSDP which is need of a roof and being a DIY'er, you first video was very informative already, looking forward to the rest.
Thanks again and safe travels, Lou.

I researched this and you are correct, it was Brite-Tek. Unfortunately it took several days to get the videos uploaded so I don't have the time to correct my titles. I will remedy this when I post my summary video still in production.
Thanks for pointing that out Gary...

Hi TR, I just watched part one of your video. Very informative and well produced. Never having figured out how to subscribe, I can’t give it an “official” thumbs up, so this will have to do: [emoji106]. I did look on You Tube and watched your three part series on the Norcold to Samsung switch out. So here ya go: [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106].
Someday I will figure out how to register (I think that I need a google account or ???).
BTW, you and I met at the Camp Freightliner class held at the 2016 NKK Rally in Pueblo. We talked about Craters of the Moon, and other RV stuff. You also gave me your contact info to pass along to a friend who has a DSDP of about your vintage.
Great Job!
Thanks,
Jerry
