Residential Refer Convert/Generator Auto Start Convert

A neighbor at the RV park has a 2004 Dutchstar. They installed a residential 10 cu/ft refer. They do not dry camp much and when traveling run the generator after lunch stop for awhile.
I'm interested in doing this conversion. Is it possible to convert the generator in our 2003 Dutchstar to Automatic Generator Start? We do not dry camp much, but will spend 4 or 5 days out once or twice a year. Also, seems to me that the alternator should keep the batteries up while driving unless the inverter is not capable running the refer.
Appreciate any help and thoughts.
Ike

You probably have a MSW inverter. Although it may run the fridge, its not the most effecent type for electric motors. Also, some of the large inverters use nearly the same AH capacity just being on as the fridge will use.

My preference would be a dedicated 1000 watt, Pure Sine wave inverter to run the fridge. It won't draw more then 20 to 25 amps DC, when running the fridge. Your alternator will easily handle that. Keep the large, power hungry inverter off when off grid.

As far as wiring it, you could get one with a pass thru switch or use an external, inverter style transfer switch. They get wired into the fridge outlet wire and plug into the small inverter.

You could also just let the fridge run on the stand alone inverter full time. If on shore power, the battery charging will be handled by your original systems.

You can convert your generator to AGS.
Google Cummins Onan EC-30w.
I installed this on a 2003 Dutch Star and it worked great. It’s a full featured unit and will take care of your needs.
And, it’s easy to install.
