Rock guard

Good morning all. I would like to purchase a Newmar rock guard that was attacked by an alligator last week on our way south. Called Newmar and they are pricey to say the least. Anys suggestions on purchasing a factory guard at an unfactory price. Thanks in advance for any input.

Regards,

David

Save your money, I took this "rockguard" off,40000 miles ago , it is just creating drag. So far , No problem with the toad. Just be sure to have mudflaps behind the wheels.

Take it off and leave it off. The toad,if you have one, will stay way cleaner and rock free.
The flap creates a vacuum and rocks and grit are sucked up off the road and deposited on the toad.
I have had 3 motorhomes and 20 years with them. A few threads on here about it or google it.

Second the Dura Flap recommendation. Had a custom one made it came out fantastic. Very well made compared to OEM ones.

"bobbflas".....DuraFlap is a good choice and nice people. They also advertise on here. Here is a thought. On the Dutch Star, they use one piece of stainless steel and then cut out the word "NEWMAR". On the Ventana, they use the letters cut out from the Dutch Flaps, so no steel frame work. This will less likely cause an issue if you've ever bent the Dutch Star steel portion of the flap.

If you go with the full size Dutch Star metal portion, DuraFlap does a much nicer job of attaching the metal. Newmar uses nuts and bolts drilled through the metal and rubber. DuraFlap welds studs on the metal, so no bolts are seen. There flaps are also made of rubber, not the cheap plastic Newmar uses.

I don't use my Ad Flap either. No Problem with rocks. I really believe they are the problem.

Now you guys have me thinking of taking mine off. I hate the way it gets folded the wrong way when the rear of the campsite has a higher slope, and then has to "unkink" when pulling out.

While I also salivated over having one since we first started traveling extensively with our new Palazzo back in August 2014, I'm glad I never 'invested' in one. I think that the truth is correct - they actually 'cause' more opportunities for damage than prevent it.

Having mud flaps behind the rear wheels is the real solution. Simple. Cost effective. No pride involved.

75,000 miles in 3 years with our toad, and still no 'damage' - including Canada and the dreaded 'Alaska'!

Removed mine, too. No regrets. Also makes it significantly easier rolling around on a creeper inspecting underside.

Boy you were a brave soul to lean that sharp edged angle iron backed Rock Guard against the backside of a brand new and beautiful paint job. Even if for a few seconds!

ps - I'll happily buy the guard from you if you want to unload it.

Just removed mine. I can see where it could create turbulence causing dirt and grime to lift and cover the toad. I know my Jeep is always covered with road spuz as I call it. Hoping this will alleviate some of the problem. It does look much better without the sign on the back.

I've had mine on and off. Find my towed pickup much cleaner with out it. Storing it in the barn in case it comes up as an issue if I sell the motorhome. I really hate manufacture advertising. I've seen motorhomes that have been custom painted without logos all over them. Looks clean. It's enough that they got my money why free advertising.
