Rust Inside Wheel Caps
In preparing to get back on the road from our winter camping spot I was putting some time in on my wheels/tires. Had to remove covers, re-install TPMS sensors, and wipe everything down.
Noticed what looked like a little rust on front passenger edge of center wheel cap. Took it off and it was holding about 1/2 cup of rusty water! At some point the cap must not have been pressed on completely or correctly I guess.
Anyhow, cleaned all that mess up and using wd-40 got the hub looking pretty good again. Went around and did all the wheels and none of the others were like that. I did remove all the chrome lug nut caps, wipe the nuts/studs down with an oily rag and then replace the caps.
I guess it is a good idea to check under these center caps on occasion.
