RV Navigation

We recently purchased a 2022 DutchStar. The coach comes equipped with the Nav-N-Nav routing system. I prefer to use RV Life application for my route planning. It's my understanding the Nav-N-Go can't accept external / downloads from other navigation /GPS systems. I really hate to have the re-key data into the Nav-N-GO system. I'm interested in what other folks use for route planning and guidance and whether there is a better approach.

We have the same Coach and use both the Nav-n-Go and RV Life on the I phone simultaneously.

I do all our trip planning with RV Trip Wizard. On a driving day I program the Nav-n-Go to our destination for that day - I never bother to program multiple days as a route. Entering the address is a little clunky but I got use to it with a little practice. I like the Nav-n-Go graphics and voice over the speakers for myself (Pilot). The DW monitors our route on the I phone using RV Trip Wizard routing on the RV Life app.

After programming the NNG for the day route I always zoom in and out and compare the two routes on the map. That let's me know if there are any conflicts in the routes. I then study the conflicts to understand which one I want to follow. I find this exercise really gets me focused on route details before we start out so there is no last minute panic on why one says to turn and the other says go straight.

If I have programmed a fuel stop into Trip Wizard I still program the final destination for the day in NNG. The DW monitors the ETA/miles to the fuel stop on the RV Life. After fueling she can quickly set RV Life to the final destination - I don't have to reprogram NNG.

I have also found the NNG ETA/Drive time to be much more accurate than the RV Life. Seems like RV Life always adds more time. A 5 hour trip on NNG shows up as a 5.5 or 5.75 hour trip on RV Life. I have played with various settings but RV Life has something in the algorithm that makes the trip appear longer in duration.

I like the Nav N Go GPS and follow the same plan as RVStitchy. To get the estimated arrival times to more closely match, I changed the driving time estimates in RV Trip Wizard to "Use my Average Driving Speed" and set the speed to 59 mph. We typically drive 65 mph and the times are fairly accurate.

Changing average driving speed will change the trip duration in RV Trip wizard for planning, but doesn't change the time in the RV Life navigation App.

I just played with it again. Heading to Hilton Head. RV Trip Wizard says 8:09 on "routing engine estimate", 8:29 if at 59 mph and 16:41 if at 30 mph.

In each case the RV Life on my I phone says it is 8:39 minute drive. I would bet if I was in my Coach now the Nav N Go would be closer to 8:00.

Maybe I am missing an additional parameter set-up in RV Life?

RV stitchy thanks so much for your prompt reply. That was exactly what I thought I was gonna have to do. I may look at using a Garmin 1090 as the auxiliary and I would be interested in your opinion on that. But I can clearly see that I could use the travel wizard on my phone and use Navang go in the coach. Thanks again for your response.

I have no experience with that product but I am sure there are plenty of others on the forum that can comment.

I use Garmin 1090 as primary for day of destination. The Garmin stays current and connects to Garmin phone app for traffic and other live update issues. Secondary is RM which will likely be upgraded to Nav n go if those SD upgrades go well. My wife runs Waze for road hazards but NOT for NAV.

No matter what NAV one uses it can not be blindly trusted, road signs and warnings are important to continue to monitor.

We do all trip planning w/ Trip Wizard.

As for fueling, I locate the spot I want to fuel using Open roads for TSD card, occasionally I will enter in Garmin as a waypoint but since they are large truck stops along the way they are pretty easy to see. I tend to fuel every 600 to 750 miles. I use pump DEF and tend to fill every other time.

Lastly, I use blue fire to monitor vitals of the chassis available through the service plug. Including DEF temp and Concentration.

In the app are you selecting Trips or GPS at the bottom? Trips mirrors what you planned on the computer.

Select your trip and then press the arrow on the right side of the current leg of your trip. GPS will start from that location and match exactly what you planned on the computer.

When there is a disagreement between RV Life and Nav-N-Go, I always follow the RV Life because I have planned and verified that route.
