Hello everyone I was wondering if anyone had any opions on the safe t plus steering unit. My workhorse chassis is like fighting 12 rounds after driving 8 hours. Both hands on the wheel and constantly fighting 18 wheeler push

Thanks for the help and Happy Holidays

The Safety plus is a crutch to cover up a problem in my opinion. The preerred approach is to start by weighing your coach and seeing that it is within load ratings on all axles.

Next step is to air the tires according to the loading.

Next is a frontend alignment with the coach loaded for normal travel.

Now if it is not dricing satisfactorly, you need to start changing things. You need to look at upgrading shock, antirioll bars and adding track bars.

The Safety Plus is nothing more than a centering steering damper.

Look in the Workhorse chassis forum as there are discussions on steering issues on the chassis and up grades.

I will never be without a Safe-T-Plus. I had one put on my previous coach shortly after purchasing it new in 1999. It did a great job at stopping the battering from wind and 18 wheelers. I did have the coach weighed when I first loaded it and always check air pressure before heading out even when just stopped overnight. I also had upgraded shocks.

The main reason though I will not be with out the device occurred not too long before I ended up buying my present coach. I had a right front blowout in TX doing just over 70 mph passing an 18 wheeler. Needless to say that could have been a disaster. With that Safe-T-Plus I heard that tire blow but I honestly never felt it blow. I lifted off the gas and without any problem was able to get into the grassy median where the tire could be replace and the torn up side panel of the motor home removed. I had forgotten about that feature of it but was very thankful for it. I'm sure that poor trucker had to change his pants because he locked up his brakes big time enveloping us in a cloud of white smoke.

It was the first thing I put on my new coach and it will be on any vehicle I own including 4 wheelers. No, I do not have any stake in the company but I did send them an email after that blowout telling them how well their device worked and how thankful I was I had one. I guess I always thought or hoped, like most, that blowout wasn't going to happen to me. Seems like it's a lot more common than not.

IMO, you should not be fighting any rounds with your coach. Here is a fairly short thread (from the Workhorse chassis forum below) titled wandering coach which may offer you some ideas to explore before spending big bucks on aftermarket add-ons.

I do not oppose steering dampeners, and I have a Tru-Center, but I got the most bang for the buck out of a rear track bar. If you have a long rear overhang, the track bar can help eliminate "most" of the effect from passing trucks.

Come on down to the Workhorse chassis forum, you are sure to find plenty going on down there!

I added a Safe-T-Plus to my previous coach (gasser P-30 Chevy chassis). It made a trendous difference. Before the addition I would fight the road ruts (wander) and hold the wheel tight when 18 wheelers passed me. After installation I could steer with one hand!
