Safe temps?

Those are about the same numbers my 02 MADP (same ISL400 on a Spartan)runs at. Temps will increase slightly on long grades or trans temp may increase in heavy traffic and lots of stop and go.

Let me toss this out...

With the dash AC ON...Water 185,
With the dash AC OFF...water 200

In both cases tranny runs about 2*-4* warmer and if it very warm temps the water temp get up to 202*.

Why is that? Well, I found that out last week at my annual service at Spartan. Spartan stacks the dash AC cooler with the engine radiator, tranny cooler & CAC. Other chassis will give the AC its own fan. So...when you run the dash AC you force the radiator fan to spin faster.

Try it with MAX AC and then try it with normal AC. With the MAX you should see a steady, cooler temp while with normal AC there is some cycling. Turn the AC on and off and you should see temps change accordingly.

Yes those are good temps.. I have seen my little car (new radiator) hit 208 coolant (Assume trans close since same radiator cools both) and over 220 shortly after shutoff. You are well within safety range.
