Sanitizing Fresh Water - Using Filter Canister for concentrate

I spoke with a representative of Purogene (sanitizing chemical) who told me about a Newmar owner he met at a Newmar rally who made a tube device to better distribute the concentrated sanitizing solution, be it chlorine or Purogene.

Evidently, when the filter is removed the water input and output orifices are located in the cap, close to each other. With no filter in place, the water does not distribute evenly throughout the canister.

Evidently, a Newmar owner made a plastic pipe that attaches to the cap in place of the filter. The pipe has holes drilled in the sides near the end. This forces the input water to exit the pipe near the bottom of the canister.

Has anyone made this device? If so, please explain the details to include the pipe diameter, etc.

I do not understand how that would help much. Whatever is in the filter canister will be pushed through in a matter of a few gallons, as there is no bypass in the filter body to allow for dilution.

Maybe I'm not understanding the issue. When I sanitize I put my chlorine in an empty filter canister and then it goes to the fresh water tank. I would think this mixes things up sufficiently. I then use the water pump to circulate through out the system.

What am I missing?

The water comes into the top of the filter housing and then leaves through the top of the filter housing never reaching the concentrated solution at the bottom of the filter housing—at least that is what I surmised from the conversation.

Sounds like using the same dimensions as the filter cartridge (about 2" X 10") would work.

Why not use the old, needs to be changed, filter to allow the proper directional flow? When done, throw the now really really clean filter away..

Leaving the filter in the canister defeats the purpose of removing the filter. The filter is removed so it does not filter out the concentrated sanitizing solution. This is a workaround since the manufacturers no longer provide an outside input to the fresh water tank.

OK...I think I get it but...much to do about nothing?

My experience is that (at least with chlorine) that it is fully evacuated out of the filter canister after over 100 gallons of water is used to fill the tank and plumbing. Perhaps other treatments might not be so soluble?

Using and "old" sediment filter to direct the flow would not seem to be a problem for anything that is liquid because the filter shouldn't stop any fluids. I would even suggest that a filter might actually better mix solution with incoming water. If other treatments are granular, maybe a problem but I can't really imagine that being a real factor.

Certainly, using a tube to direct water flow down and out is an effective method for those that are concerned about solution distribution.

Perhaps this is a solution looking for a problem?
