Satellite TV Issue

Just purchased a used 2015 Newmar Canyon Star 3911 and I am having problems with Dish Satellite reception. RV is equipped with Winegard Traveler Satellite antenna - Dish type.

Let me first say that I have read and searched this Forum trying to solve my problem. I have found many threads on the subject, but none worked for me. Also, the antenna booster switch on the wall is 0ff and TV is auto programmed.

With Dish receiver on Televator TV is saying "No Signal. Check External Input or Select A Different Input from the Source Menu.

Dish was working in my yard last week, but went camping this week and would not work.

OTA and Blue Ray work, Checked all connection and they seem to be. secure. PLEASE HELP

I guessing you have checked these items, but will mention them anyway:
1. The sat controller has locked on all three satellites (shows 3 numbers with a star next to each).
2. TV is on the correct source, i.e. HDMI1, HDMI2, etc.
3. Sometimes my HDMI cable need to be "wiggled" on the back of the receiver.
4. Last trip I found one of my cable ends had come loose and had to replace the cable.

The satellite signal will not pass through the circuitry of the OTA antenna booster, even when turned off. You will need to route a COAX cable directly from satellite dish to downstream of booster, preferably directly to receiver.

I posted a schematic coax recommended routing from Winegard a while back. When I am back on my computer I'll go look for the schematic to repost.

This is a common mis-wiring when using portable dishes or when we DIY'ers save a few bucks.

Hope this helps,
Brian

I had a similar issue and it took months to figure out and it ended up being the factory installed hdmi connection Click image for larger version

I've had that issue a couple of times in 10 years of running a Winegard Travler. I always go up on the roof first and make sure the coax cable connected to the antenna is tight. I believe it's 7/16. Loosen it a little and then retighten.

Thanks jd956, just might be the problem. Now I have to figure out how to check it.

Thanks Don, I will have to check your suggestion, but I would think the Dish Screen saying "Searching for Signal" would show on screen.

OP, what DISH receiver do you have?

Also, I believe you get your TV locals out of Jackson, right? Jackson's DISH HD locals are transmitted on 61.5 which is not the default mode of a Winegard Travler. But I doubt if this is the problem.

It sounds like you have a cord-ology issue. If you haven't done so already, try connecting your DISH receiver's HDMI out directly to your TV.

Thanks, Tech, tried taken a HDMI cord from home and running direct from Dish receiver to TV and it worked flawlessly. Tried that cord from receiver to HDMI splitter, did not work. Used that same cord and ran from HDMI splitter output directly to TV, did not work.

I now believe I have a bad HDMI splitter.

Splitter is a Commexx 3D-READY HDMI 1X4 SPLITTER. After a Google search there seems to not be one available anywhere. Do you think the brand would matter?

There are many brands of splitters. I think Newmar finds products that no one else can find sometimes. I thought I had a splitter issue and just bought one on Amazon that was a 4 into 1. It worked the same as the Newmar installed models. They all do the same thing.

Satellite TV Issue

If the "splitter" you refer to is what is in the attached photo, and located under my kitchen sink, my splitter did not work (as reflected by its connection lights not being illuminated) when the HDMI cable from my Dish Hopper was plugged into the faulty Newmar HDMI wall-mounted cable double female connector in the earlier photo. However, after buying a 3' hdmi extension cord and bypassing it, it has worked flawlessly. Good luck and hope you solve it soon! I know how frustrating it is! Click image for larger version

Unless I am missing it, I don't see what receiver you are using. You may need a Dish Node in your setup. TechWriter can answer that question, since I got all my setup info from his website.
