Sawdust in the cab speakers!
When I bought this coach, the seller warned me that the passenger's cab audio speaker was blown (sounded awful) and I'd need to replace it.
So last night I removed the 4 screws that hold it up in the ceiling over the dashboard to see what speaker it is -- so I could replace it.
SURPRISE! When the last screw came out, and the speaker loosened, I was showered with sawdust! I mean, at least a cup's worth! The speaker of course was jammed full of the stuff.
My first thought was "Oh no -- MICE!". But on closer inspection, the sawdust looked smooth and machined -- as if cut by a very sharp saw (or hole-saw), and not little mousey teeth. And I found absolutely no mouse droppings in the saw dust. It looked like brand new construction sawdust.
What the heck? That's really sloppy.
I dumped and shook and vacuumed out the speaker, then reached up into the hole and scooped out a whole lot more sawdust. Finally I screwed it back in and tested it -- WORKS GREAT!
So I pulled the driver's speaker. More sawdust! Not nearly as much this time, but plenty.
What the heck again.
Is this an odd Newmar assembly mistake, or should I blame some idiot dealer -- or DIY owner?
It was a quick and cheap fix, but it makes me wonder what other surprises are in places I can't see.

Typical RV construction methods. I'm sure you will find more of the same in other areas.

Clean up takes time......factory evidently can't afford a vac cleaner and the time to teach anyone on how to use it....in my RV, first time using ceiling ducts for the A/C, thought it was snowing.....

After using any coach Newmar or SOB always got the vac out and did some cleaning, many screws, tie's and saw dust but you must have had the tops in that find, its a item that's been around for some time.

Had the same problem with my 08 . Passenger speaker full of sawdust. Drivers a little less. Still have to replace with larger ones. Not sure who thought a 3” speaker was adequate! Even the bedroom has 6” speakers.

2016 VTDP. During factory pickup I noticed sawdust behind our digi-level gage screen. The tech took the unit out and sawdust everywhere. I’ve been to the factory and watched the production cleanup crews. They do a thorough job, but there is one crew I didn’t see, and they cleaned my rig. I’ve heard ( by some unnamed bearded guy) that Newmar gets rid of these folks as soon as they find them. But the damage they do before getting booted out the door lives on in our woeful tales here on the forum. If you have sawdust one place, I guarantee it’s everywhere in your coach. Plus mysterious screws and nuts the magically appear on you floor at night. Only fix is to remove everything you are comfortable removing and clean the sawdust, bolts, missing persons (just kidding, sort of) in the orifices.
