Second satellite dish
My 2015 DS has an in motion satellite dish which works fine. I am considering installing a second automatic dish for the bedroom. I believe the easiest is to add a roof mounted tailgater since it's powered over the coax and has a small footprint. My goal is separate tuning for the bedroom.
has anyone done this? Or have suggestions?

Any reason you want a separate dish for this? Factory installation of the in motion satellite has a connection for a receiver in the bedroom already, so you can use that dish.

Just add coax...But the portable one also comes in handy if your signal get blocked by trees....if you have a single feed off the portable, get a Direct splitter from a dealer, I went with Sat Pro in Florida, which has 4 outputs, then if you have a second receiver, you can watch two different programs at the same time

We had a Wingard sat HD dish installed and abandoned the OEM in-motion dome. It was SD only plus utilized a different receiver, or at least ours being set up for DirecTV did. We wanted the larger receiver to record more than one thing at once plus the HD.
We considered some type of automatic carry out mounted on the roof. As it turns out during our first year of full timing we have always been camped where we could get a signal so I'm glad now we didn't go that route.

If I were adding a second satellite dish on the roof, it would be a Winegard Trav’ler or RF Mogul. No issues with tuners to worry about then.
If I had a Tailgater I would be using it to avoid trees and other line of sight issues on the ground.

My reason for the second dish is separate programming in the Bed Room. With the current in-motion, I have to change the channel in the front room to be on the same sat as the desired programing in back.
My in-motion allows HD for Dish Network. I want to retain the in-motion in the living area. The Tailgater would allow for a simple installation only requiring the coax. If I use a Winegard auto I will have to run a power cable and install a switch. The Traveler requires a control box.
My hope was to simply connect the TailGater to the coax feed that goes to the Bed Room and roof mount it. I know the Traveler is best just want to retain the in motion.

That wouldn't be my choice, but if you are set on having a Tailgater style mounted on the roof the only issue I can think of is how will the coax get through? I guess as long as your bedroom TV isn't in a slide it would be doable, but if it is in a slide that creates some issues.

I think you need to add another receiver ie: a Joey if on Dish Walley.
One sat Dish, two receivers, two TVs, independent channel watching.

I currently have two receivers. The in motion dish has two outputs. The #1 output (master) determines which sat the dish looks at. The #2 runs to the bedroom. I can watch two different channels as long as they are on the same sat (ie 119), unlike the Traveler which looks at all three at the same time. I'm looking for a solution that allows for total independent viewing. Changing to a Traveler would allow that but I would lose the in motion. My thought was to add a second dish and connect it to the #2 coax on the roof which is run to the bedroom. The reason for the tailgater is that it is powered via the coax which already exists.
Just looking for a better solution..

Ok, so if I am understanding now, your current in-motion dish can lock on and receive one satellite connection at a time. the LNB can't see more than one sat at a time.
And you want to view two sats at a time, one for TV 1 and one for TV 2.
Is that right?
Simpler would be to get an in-motion that can see more than one satellite at a time so you don't have two dishes on your roof to manage.
And sell me your existing in-motion
I don't have model specific recommendations today though as I will need to do same research. I am just debating whether I need Sat at all, HD at all, and likely don't have a real need for two independent sats to be concurrently in use.
