Security light bulb replacement

A search produced this, up through 2015 Newmar used 1141 or 1156 in the security light.

Reckon that I will need to pull the cover and inspect the bulb before ordering

Stop by Harbor Freight , and pick up a package of both , no sense going up the ladder twice .
If your vintage coach is like mine , there'll be both types somewhere.

Better yet, now's the time to change it out to one of the large LED blocks that are wired to a bulb base. I replaced both of mine with what the call COB LED's. They are actually 1" square LEDS, not multiples LEDS in a square. I added two to both side and can light up half the campground if I need to.

Do you have a link to where you purchased them? Thanks in advance!

Security light bulb replacement

This is such a coincidence! Both of my Security Bulbs were burned out. The burned out bulb was an 1156 so I bought the direct replacement LED, the base didn't fit well and the light didn't work! I had two spare 1176 incandescents, they fit and worked so I bought the Direct Replacement LED for the 1176, which fit perfectly but still did not illuminate. Everything is the same regarding the bayonet mount! Obviously, the bulbs could be bad but 4 bad bulbs? Any suggestions??
Thanks in advance and All the best to you all,

Jeff and Lynn

I have the same I might have copied yours. I had the opportunity to help a late arriving neighbor over Labor Day weekend lighting up his back in site. Holy moly those things are bright.

Hi Jeff - LEDs are polarity sensitive. Try reversing the wiring and see if the LEDs work for you.

DSDon:

Do you have a link to what you are using? I did a search for "COB LED," but get so many results that it is confusing. Did you buy them with the 1156 base installed, or is this a DIY project?

Jim.....Here is what I bought. I bought a pair for each side and wired them to one base. They use a 3M backing. I angled one high and one low, so I get great coverage. I'm not a lighting freak, but if you're going to light up your patio area or use it as a security light, I want it bright.

"clayfeet".....Unless yours is different, the opening on my light bulb socket, in my scare lights, points to the rear of the coach. If you buy an LED where the LED is just on the tip of the bub, it will be pointing toward the rear of the coach, not out to the side.

Hey Tom,
I'll need some more guidance on reversing the wiring. I don't understand how to do that?
Does it require that I remove the light from the bulkhead or just the fixture itself?

Jeff

.
From the spec sheet of above

Overall Length 1 5/8"
Overall Width (or diameter) 1 1/2"

the base won't cover the three inch area of the existing fixture?

I may go with this
