G'morning All: While driving S. from Traverse City, MI, to a Western Horizon park near White Cloud on Sat. I all of sudden got a "Service Due" msg. on dash screen (below odometer). Anyway, didn't know what it meant. Pulled over, checked what I knew, and have been trying to figure out WHAT service is due? We're in an relatively new 08 4502 Essex, w. Spartan and 500 Cummins ISM. w. 8,800 mileage. Been SEARCHING paperwork and manuals provided with coach BUT can't find any ref.....YET. Thought one of you might steer me straight. THANKS. Steve & Lynette

joe: We've NOT changed the oil yet. However, we traded Mtn. Aire for this Essex which had mileage of 4,400 and I did ask, but didn't make sure dealer changed oil before we took delivery. Will check literature...but is oil change called for already???? Thanks. Steve & Lynette

I think it's supposed to be around 5000 miles, at least for the first one. Don't have my Spartan manual handy, though.

joe: Yes, the dealer did change the oil at the 4,400 mileage mark when we bought rig. Still haven't figured why that "Service Due" msg. appeared now at around 8,800 mileage. If I can't dig it out of the literature, guess it'll be time to call Spartan unless someone else knows. Thanks. Steve & Lynette

Steve, I am not familiar with your rig so this is just a SWAG.
Is it possible the dealer forgot to reset the OLM(Oil Life Monitor) when they changed the oil.
Look in your documents for resetting OLM.

It's also possible the dealer didn't reset the warning, so the computer doesn't know it was changed.
I think you can go through the menus on the Spartan display panel to see what the warning means, but I'm not real good at navigating that system yet. It's the two buttons (right, down).

The "service due" code which appears on the chassis information screen is a parameter which appears from your choices. By changing the "setup" options, you can make the message appear at various milage readings. In other words, if you want your next oil change at 10,000 miles, you can imput that alarm from the "up" and "across" buttons on the dash.
The exact method of changing the screens appears in the Spartan manual. Some of these include the engine temp, outside temp, tranny temp, mpg, etc.

Hi! Great answer Chuck. Like setting your alarm clock in the morning. It is not like some of the cars that figure out when you need the oil change based on driving habits or time. Paul

THANK YOU ALL! I kinda think this "Service Due" msg. IS a result of it not being re-set when oil was changed....BUT...don't know for sure...and...programming or re-programming that dash system is a major hurdle for us folks who had to quit using our old VCR when our son left home cause we couldn't figure out all the button pushes on the dang remote. Well, we're scheduled in at Newmar (Nappanee) on Sept. 22nd, and will seek help there. THANKS AGAIN. Steve & Lynette

Randy is the in-house Spartan tech at Newmar; he gave me a photocopy of a shortened version on how to program the "DIC" or driver information center thus avoiding the voluminous reading of the Spartan manual. Betcha "a dollar to a donut" the service light is not something they forgot to reprogram at the time of your oil change, but he can change the mileage alert parameter.
