Slide cog track
While we were visiting with friends yesterday, we heard a loud pop outside the coach. Couldn't find the source.
Today, we realized after extending the kitchen slide that the cog track for one side of the slide out had broken the attachment screws and was just dangling below the slide out.
Has anyone seen this issue before. Can I just remove the existing screws or drill new holes through the track and re-attach it trying to make sure it lines up in the original position? Any ideas how long the screws might be?

Slide cog track
I am not a cog track professional but it would stand to reason that you could. It looks like corrosion was the culprit.
I would remove the current fasteners and/or drill them out. I would recommend replacing them with something that has good shear properties as by the looks of your setup tensile strength may be less of a concern. Also since it is just hanging there, spray a bit of rust paint in that area and make sure to use stainless grade 5 or higher, won't have to touch them again.
You may not be able to get suitable quality fasteners at the local hardware store. I would look around for a local machine shop or fabrication shop but you never know, Home Depot might have something.
Anyhow, good luck and let us know how it goes!
Just wanted to add, I took another look at your pics. I would drill a couple of additional holes for safe measure and be careful you don't buy fasteners that are too long.

I had this problem with my kitchen slide. I ended up at Newmar for a full rebuild of the slide mechanism. This was a very big task as there was more damage in the hidden area and binding going on.
Sadly, I didn't see it in the disassembled stage, but PDR John did see it as he was visiting the factory while my repair was in progress. Maybe he can provide more details.

Thanks for the feedback Miramichi and redbaron73. Waiting to hear back from Newmar before I do too much. We'll be here at Estes Park for at least another day.

Wonder if Newmar got a bad batch of screws from.... China ??
Haven't had this issue yet, but have had screws break off on a few other items such as door latch plate, slide topper awning axle bracket, and misc. trim pieces. Also have found a few exterior trim pieces where screws snapped off during factory installation and were not replaced.

I had exactly the same issue on our 2012 Ventana LE. Newmar Factory Techs at Pomona, CA FMCA rally this year simply drilled new holes through the plat next to the pre existing ones. They drilled a countersink for the head and used self tapping screws. It has worked fine since. It was the heads that broke off on each. The 4 interior screws on the plate were fine.

After multiple conversations with Newmar, I finally got the same info as posted by Onegeorge1. I first had to move the slide out back & forth to get the cog track back to it's original position. Then I drilled new holes in the track, countersunk the screws and used one size larger screw. I believe the original was a #8, used a #10.
Seems to work fine. Only time will tell if the advice was correct. Drilling upside down through steel plates was not the most fun I have ever had:-)

There are four more screws that stay on the inside of the coach when open. Have you checked to make sure the heads on those screws are still in place?

Thanks Onegeorge1. When I talked with Newmar, I was told there were only screws outside the slide out. Apparently, that is not the case. Not at the motorhome right now, do you know how to get to the others. Is is underneath in the bay?

You should be able to see them from inside by looking under the slide. I can see them with the slide open or closed.

This slide-cog track looks grossly under-engineered. First of all, two pieces misaligned and riveted together, and then attached with screws to the bottom of the slide? Anyone of us could have engineered something in their garage that would have surpassed this! At the very least this should be one heavier track, affixed to the slide in a more robust manner. Looks like this was engineered to fail, and has.
