Slide Drawer For dead space in basements

When I saw FLSteve's and Ruffinits shelves for the basement dead space in my DSDP, I thought a drawer would be better since mine is under a slide. Because of front weight issues, I thought adding angle iron or wood wood be too heavy, so I decided on aluminum, plus no need to paint o worry about rust.

This is mod is in my number 4 bay, the one with the full storage tray from side to side, the chassis rail gives me dead space on both sides, but since my hydraulic slide dips down on the passenger side, I can only do this on the driver side.

For the drawer slides, they are rated at 100#, I certainly did not want to put that much weight upfront anyways. I used 1/8 inch angle stock for my drawer frame, that provide sufficient rigidity without too much weight. For the bottom, I used diamond tread, also 1/8" Aluminum. For spacers, and different coaches will have to be measured, I used square stock to align the drawer slides for max width and still clearing the opening.

I used pop rivets to secure the bottom to the frame and bolted the joint at the back so as not to interfere withe slides and look nicer upfront. All the parts I bought at Lowe's for about $90.

Look me up at the Tampa Show to see it.

Thanks for the idea!, I've got the same "problem" in our rig and could certainly use the add'l space.

Hey Frank,

Awesome mod! I can think of so many things that would just plain be out of the way in storage like that! I must have missed something, so what do you use to move the shelf up and down?

Thanks,

Jeff and Lynn

What do you mean up and down? It's a slide drawer. Slides straight out.
Look for my tan and red dsdp with a dive tag on the front in Tampa, feel free to ring the bell!

Where do I place my order?

I really like what you have done and I agree with everyone here, nice workmanship too!

So just how much are you charging for this upgrade?
