Slide motor reliability

I have a 2002 KSDP, and I was wondering what kind of life I can expect out of the slide motors. I would like to hear everyones thoughts, opinions, etc.
Thanks

Never had a problem with three Newmars since 98 with a motor in fact never had a slide control problem either.
If you follow the slide spec's by Newmar everything should be good. More info in QT's 1 & 2.
Now that's not saying people have had problems by over adjusting pots on controllers or if the motor on older MH's is exposed to the road salts when its mounted in same exposed compartment as where the LP tank is.
Newer MH's the motors are in closed compartments, the motors are low torque type and will crush your fingers or anything behind the fascia of slide, slow but sure I always say with Newmar slides.
If you level coach than place slides out you will not cause stress to slide operations or motors.

My 02 DS has had only one slide problem. The bedroom slide controller went out, no motor problems so far. But you never know. I have had many other maintainence problems and presently on a winter trip without rear AC/Heat pump working and generator won't turn refer on to AC when running. These Class A"s can be a money pit, but no better way to travel!!!!

I've got lots of opening and closing on this coach now, and have owned 2 Newmars prior. Never had a slide motor problem ever. I had a reduction gear drive, that's bewteen motor and shaft, break the case. Had the entire unit replaced. I was surprised it wasn't more expensive, but it was only about $425 for the parts.

We've had one controller go bad although it only lost the voice. I replaced it and carry the old one as a spare. In 2004 the main slide started not retracting unless we helped it. Was supposed to be fixed under warranty but I've since found out all they did was change the pot setting. Now the motor has gotten weaker and requires manual assistance every time we retract it. Seems like a pole or two are weak but still working enough that it hasn't quit completely. I really need to find out which of two motors listed in the online parts listing it has and get it replaced.

PM me. I have two good motors that I am willing to part with.
