Slide-out Locks

The in-board ends of the locking arms have a pin that can slide up and down in a slot. What is the proper position for locking--up or down? It seems that when I push the pin up before locking some of the arms, they lock tighter. On other arms, I can't even push the pin up. Help me out, please.

Hi RetiredBob,
The purpose of the slot is to allow that end of the arm to move up a bit as the slide completely opens. Leave the pin in the lower position when locking the slide.

For an owner, there is no need to raise the pin in the slot. The slide should firmly lock just using the tool. The slide will lock tighter by moving the pin up in the slot and then locking the lock. However, for me, this puts undue stress on the entire mechanism (outer wall, slide wall and the lock itself). You are correct, some slides one can not lock if the pin is moved up, all the way.

As your coach ages the locks maybe able to lock by hand without tool.
If the lock is raised in slot just be aware of it when it may drop down in slot while driving with a slam, the lock will still be in the locked position need not worry.

I have never used the tool. I just push up until it snaps in place. They all fit firm. Not real sure regarding the purpose of the tool. I need to open my dining room window to snap one of the locks. It is a very narrow space and my arm will not fit.

Is there a difference using the tool or using your arm????

Hi jojolima,
The tool is for folks like me who have very little upper body strength. It provides considerable leverage.
