Not Sure what the snap ring is for but certainly it matters...
You could check to make sure the Trans Torque bushings are tight. Easy to check, as always try the easy things first... Best of luck!
The long story in why I say to check it:
We just had our flat floor slide not pull back in. Motor ran but no movement. After a 1/2 hr of factory service conversation I was told it was the gearbox and they'll put me in contact with the nearest Newmar service center. I wasn't satisfied that was the true root cause so I found the thread on this site and buried in there is the suggestion to "make sure the bushings are tight". Well, a $20 pipe wrench later the problem is fixed. Saved the $770 part from Newmar. My theory is since we were on a less than perfectly level sight, the extra load put on the shaft when pulling slide in actually causes the Trans torque nut to want to loosen. As this is a 2009 MC with a 2018 Klauber Gearbox I expect the bushing was not torqued correctly or it was and eventually loosened. As most have written here, good thing to carry a pipe wrench and torque wrench/crowfoot wrench to check the bushing regularly.
