Slide Seal Lubricant

While I was at Newmar this week I asked what to use to lubricate and protect the slide seals. They told me nothing liquid like WD-40 but to use a powder type lubricant.

W

What is everyone using for the slide seals and for the steps?

Phil

I use talcum powder in an old soak to wipe down the seals & wipers on my slideouts.

I use a dry graphite spray on slideout rack, front landing gear legs, rear stabilizers, entry step mechanisms.
Goes on wet then completely dries and does not attract dirt/grim

I use a silicone spray on the hydraulic piston arms......wipe down with a clean dry rag first then wipe down with a rag sprayed with silicone.

5th wheel......10 yrs old.......still going strong

For the rubbery bits I have been using 303 Aerospace UV Protectant for several years.

Consider the technique in this video. Seems to work very well.

Fill up old sock with talcom powder. Fit behind the seals and front of the seals. I usually do it about every other month.

When I bought my coach Newmar said it wasn't necessary.

Nonononono. It needs to be done at least annually. Before my current coach, I had a 2004 Mountain Aire that I purchased used. It showed signs of sticking rubber as mentioned in the video. There were small pieces of rubber pulled off the seal because it had not been treated enough. I assumes when you said "Newmar said it wasn't necessary" you were actually talking about a Newmar dealer..... At the Newmar factory, they do suggest using the baby powder method.
