One of our Living Room Slides would not extend. We went to dinner and when we returned the slide had extended on its own, but would not retract. I checked the slide relay and it is burned up. I have battery at slide motor when out switch is pressed but no battery at motor when in switch is pressed. The switch test good. I left my handbook at home.(Not Smart!) I know to manually retract slide you use a ratchet wrench on 5/8 nut on transmission housing. Do I have to release any tension nut/nuts b4 ratcheting in?

What year and model coach do you have? Also, is the troublesome slide on the driver or passenger side?

We have a 2006 Kountry Star 3912. The slide is on passenger side. I disconnected motor and hooked battery directly to motor and retracted slide so motor is ok. Relay is toast. I switched relay with one of the working slides still does not work.

In QT's 1 & 2 all slide info is there here are the Newmar slide spec's.

My coach is a year earlier than yours. Other than that, they should be identical with regard to the slides. My living area passenger slide has no way to manually ratchet the slide in or out. You are fortunate that the motor works and you can connect a battery to move the slide. The only way I know to manually move the slide is to have a crow's foot and loosen the clutch on the shaft about 2' forward of the motor. With the clutch loose, several strong people can push the slide in.
