Slideout motor bolts coming loose
A suggestion for Newmar owners to tighten the 4 bolts that attach the slideout motor to the slideout assembly. There are 4 bolts with 9/16 head that come loose and can cause damage to the slideout assembly. We had to replace the damaged slideout assembly because the bolts came loose. The motor is in the cabinets outside the coach and when I check ours last time some bolts turned as many as 3 revolutions. Thinking of putting lock tight on them since this a on going issue. Once a year check would be a good suggestion.

Thanks for the Tip. I will check them this weekend. Don`t need any trouble that can be prevented with a little maintenance.

Techs at Newmar said should be checked twice a year.

Well I am at Newmar right now. Tomorrow morning I am going to find out what is so hard about putting safety wire on the bolts during production. Problem solved and never have to be checked again.

I check mine twice a year after a frend from the Newmar Kountry Klub showed me at a rally and told that every one he has checked was loose from old to new

Good luck getting them to change anything. They are still building water tank vents that dump part of the water overboard and could easily be stopped.

Not so hard if the bolt head is drilled. Newmar would have to cross drill the bolt head or buy fasteners pre drilled ( more money). In my opinion Loctite Red ( or similar product) is the better solution and an easy field maintenance method.

Slideout motor loose bolt solution!
Hi All,
Toby from this group presented this issue to Stage 8 Locking Fasteners, and owner Bruce Bennett has come up with a solution. (Toby also passed this solution on to Newmar with a reply that they'd pass it along.)
In any case, they are bolts with a groove in them, a retainer and an eclip. It's all being finalized now but Toby has tried out a sample, and it worked great. Check out www.stage8.com and you'll see why Toby thought this company could come up with a solution.

Use nordlocks. I have been using them for 40 years and have never seen one come loose.

Almost 5 years ago when we made this post (5-16) and it still is the biggest single issue effecting all Newmar coaches. We almost all love our Newmar's but just wished the slide motors would stay tight.

While I think the safety wire is a solid fix I don't see them doing it. I think just some properly installed Loctite will cure the problem.

Had the same issue 3.5 to 4yrs ago on two of our slide motors. Pulled all bolts, one at a time, on our slide motors and put a drop of blue lock tight on each one. Bolts have remained tight since I’ve done it and we travel at least 10K miles per year.
I’ve also had compartment door handles come loose over time. Spent an afternoon adding blue lock tight to the bolts that hold the handles on, no problem since. While your in there doing the handles, add some lube.

I tightened all 4 motors a year ago. Just rechecked and all were a bit loose, needing to be snugged up. The worst of them all was the bedroom slide motor which figures since it's the hardest to get to. I'll do the Blue Loctite next time I check them and see if it helps. I believe Newmar added a check list on them for once a year as well.
