Solar

Hi all, I have a 2015 Canyon Star 3921 that was prepped for Solar and I was wondering what is involved in completing the installation? What is needed for equipment and what should I expect to pay. I would do the install.

" Prepped for solar " may just mean that wires that are too small were routed somewhere in your MH. I'm just saying that you need to basically be responsible for the entire project. A good place to start reading would be here IMO.

https://handybobsolar.wordpress.com/...ging-puzzle-2/

Many of us here believe that no solar system is complete without a good meter/shunt. You wouldn't be disappointed if you installed a Trimetric meter now while you're still planning your solar. It actually can help in planning the right size system.

As you get better informed and give a little more info many of the kind folks here will be able to help.

And most importantly.....when you're up on the roof. Don't drill there!

The Solar Prep for the Canyon Star is only 10 gauge...
I have read that 6 gauge is much better in that it will handle more than one panel...
To get 6 gauge you order a Special Build with Newmar...
It's a $100 plus upgrade cost...
Hope this helps..

Have been researching this topic as well, and you'll find a lot of information on this site. An IRV2 sub-forum that is also useful is "Going Green" under RV Systems and Technologies. One source of solar equipment and installation that receives a great deal of good reviews is AMSolar. I have no personal experience with them, but they have a lot of good information on their site, and some standard kits they sell where you can at least look at what is involved to install.

Several of us tried to help on your previous post.

If I were you I would basically forget about the prep and start becoming a solar expert. There's a chance you won't be able to use much of the prep when you properly size the solar/wiring.

Read it was a $100 upgrade fee...

Frank unless you are planning on doing a lot of boon docking the gage you have now should be sufficient for a panel or two for the house batteries.
I have had small panels to do just that on my other Newmars.
My 03 all the batteries have allowed me to boon dock while traveling between stops and run the furnace in Jan. cold weather and coach had no problems starting right up in the morning.
In QT's # 3 DS Don's MOD's has this thread about the Newmar way of doing things solar.------ Note on Newmar Solar

How was your trip to WV?
