Spartan Recall 14V-182

I was reading the current issue of FMCA and in the "Recall Corner" there was information on a recall for many models, including mine, from 1997-2015 (16V-501). This recall was for the "flexible exhaust tube." I called Spartan and after giving him my VIN he said my coach was not in the recall. However, he said there was another recall for my coach (14V-182). This one concerns the "steering gear bracket" and they do not have a record of my coach being fixed for this issue. I bought it this Summer, so I don't know what the previous owner did or did not due. Spartan told me to contact Cummins NW (my closest repair facility) and make arrangements for them to coordinate the repair. Guess I'll add this to my list.

I've registered my ownership of this coach with both Spartan and Newmar. I would think that they would notify me of outstanding recall work, but I guess not...

I had the exhaust flex done at Northwest Cummins. Quick and easy. If you are not the first owner, this is probably why you did not hear from them. They just seem very slow updating and sometime even for the original purchaser. Make sure Northwest understands that this is a recall so they do not charge you.

Best of luck,

Peter

Peter... Thanks for the response, but the exhaust recall is not the one I have. Spartan said it is the "steering gear bracket" that needs to be looked at. They referred me to Cummins NW, but they said they didn't do this type of work, and referred me to Olympia Cummins. They also said that they don't do this type of work, so I guess I'll call Newmar, in the morning, and ask them where I should go.

Wow, that surprises me as they work on large trucks and are also a Coach Care dealer. We are talking about Northwest Cummins in Coburg Oregon?

I had the steering bracket recall done by Cummins NW Spokane. The kit had been shipped to Cummins NW Renton, I called Cummins NW Oly and they said t took two days and we would have to move out of the rig for that time. CNW Renton said they could not do the recall as their Spartan guy was on loan to CNW Oly. Called CNW Spokane and they scheduled me at a convenient time. They have 6-8 hook ups and the work was done in 4-5 hours. Great people. If you can, go east for the work.

I didn't get a chance to call Newmar, today, so I will try again, tomorrow. All I know is that Spartan recommended Cummins NW, but the Renton branch said they did not do this work, and referred me to Olympia Cummins. The service supervisor was out, so the person I talked to said they didn't know if they did that work, and check back with the supervisor. I will call them again, tomorrow, too...

Called Cummins Olympia back, this morning, and they do indeed do this recall repair. Told me to call Spartan, again, and have them send kit to them and then they would call for scheduled appointment. Called Spartan and they will contact Cummins Olympia and get the kit to them. It's a 3+ hour labor job, but its covered by Spartan. Looks like this will work...

Well.... After having my coach at Cummins Olympia for almost exactly one month.... they finally said it was ready. I won't go into much detail here except to say that, after they got the coach, they specifically told me that I was not a priority, and if they had more pressing maintenance to do (someone who's truck was used for business) that work would be done first. I had also asked them to do a coolant flush and replace the fan blade, as it had cracks/chips. I don't mind them wanting to take care of their business customers, first, but I made this appointment weeks in advance, and they were never "proactive" in calling me and letting me know what was going on. I will have to re-evaluate my future business with this particular branch... I pick it up, this morning, and hopefully they did the work correctly...
