Sporadic hot water on 2018 Dutch Star

2018 Newmar Dutch Star, Hot water works sporadically, weather on boiler or electric. Does anyone know if there is a common valve that's controlled by a sensor which is failing?

Your bypass could be set wrong.

My best guess is a failing summer loop pump. To test my theory, when your hot water is not working set the bypass switch (located on top of the silver Oasis control module) to on and see if you then have hot water, if you do it's a bad summer loop pump. CAUTION do NOT leave the bypass switch in the on position.

Good call by "Just George". The pump is pretty easy to change, just hard to access. It requires you crawl into the 3/4 bay on the passenger side. Get a pair of hose clamps (Amazon) that lets you clamp the coolant hose was replacing the pump. The pump that is bad should be about the middle of the unit as you're looking in.

Tip.....when traveling between campgrounds, turn off the electric and diesel burner switches on the Oasis panel.

I just changed my summer loop pump last week. It is the one located on the left side once the cover is removed. Very difficult to remove the hoses from the old pump. Suggest you go to a auto supply and buy a foot or so of 1/2 ID heater hose. I ended up cutting both of the hoses at the pump to remove the old pump and using a short length of new hose on the outlet portion. The inlet hose was long enough that the missing 1 inch did not require replacement. You only need to clamp the inlet hose as the outlet goes into a check valve which prevents fluid from leaking out. Took me longer to remove the contents and slide tray from that compartment than to change the pump. of course the tray and contents had to be reinstalled afterwards.

For those of us who have changed one (or more) of these, I learned something the last time. When you use the bypass switch it turns on the zone pumps for heat and turns off the summer loop pump.

The second time ours failed it was just like the OP. The pump didn’t blow the fuse like the first one so I was very confused when I started trouble shooting. I called and talked to one of the guys at ITR and he said the newer style was failing differently than the original type. They would open up internally as opposed to shorting and blowing the fuse. He said there is a PCB in the pump that has a circuit that has tendency to open. Before it fails completely is goes intermittent.

When replacing the pump make sure the new pump doesn’t touch the heat exchanger. Hopefully this will keep some heat away from the new pumps circuitry.
