Spring Service

Taking my coach in tomorrow to Cummins Coach Care in Cincinnati and wondering about a couple recommended maintainace items. Last year when I bought the coach I replaced literally every fluid and filter on it to give me a base line. This year Cummins recommends replacing on my chassis at 12 months or 15,000 miles: 1.front wheel bearing lube 2.drive axle fluid 3.Hydraulic reservoir and filter. This along with the regular oil, air, fuel filters which I will do. I have 12 months on it but only 8,000 miles. For the 3 items listed above is it overkill to be replacing them this year? I had planned to skip a year on these but want to know what others do with these items.

Your Brochure says you have a Spartan chassis, in the Spartan forum you will find this link FOR DEF CHASSIS.with maintenance items.

Since you have last year changed everything for fresh start I would follow maintenance links advise for no over kill.

If you tried to get link in Spartan forum earlier the link was broken and I have now fixed it, it was from the change's made first of the year in the COM_NET LINKS.

Some of the items you listed are definitely not changed every year. The hydraulic fluid and filter, for example, is usually every 3 years. I would go somewhere else if Cummins Coach Care say this is necessary.

John, they didn't. It's what Cummins maintainace schedule recommends. Go figure. That's why I asked. Thought it was a little overkill. Thanks for the advice.

Wayne - I don't change the oil on mine every year. I change filters every year and on the years that I don't change the oil I send an oil sample in for analysis. I agree that the front bearing lube and drive axle are overkill.

Hi wracinti,
I agree with the other posters. If the system is closed, I make sure the fluid level is correct but change every 3 years. Six years on the tranny fluid and filters. Engine oil and filter gets replaced every year (or so). Depending on when its' convenient where, I am and what's coming up.

There is a BIG difference between what a dealer and a manufacture recommend, as far as service.

Tell them to show you what the manufacturer recommends. Let that be your guide.

Thanks guys,
Correction, what I stated above came from Spartan recommended maintainance not Cummins. So, you don't change engine oil yearly, go by miles? How about generator oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter? I don't want to be spending money I don't have to.
