Stairs

Yesterday, while traveling down I-77, my stairs came out on my '16 DS 4369. Warning light and buzzer sounded. Luckily we were very close to rest area. We have 3 step stairs so bottom step lands on ground. Tried to operate stairs with door 2x with no luck, then on the 3rd time and 7 subsequent tries they worked fine. Talked to 3 service techs with no definite fixes, could be loose wire or faulty magnets or bad switch. So I unplugged harness to motor after stairs were up in order to travel. Anyone have similar experience?

First, no experience on this.

But if the steps stayed out while the coach ignition was on then it would be the same thing if the coach was parked and when the door opened the steps would come out, close the door and the steps would come back in. In your case they went out on their own and never came back in while the ignition was on. That would mean that the door switch itself is at fault or shorted out. I would look there first.

Had a similar experience first trip out with our brand new 2019 Ventana LE back in 2019. Different steps, but same problem. Every time I drove in the rain the steps would start going in and out on their own......that seemed to be the only trigger. Unhooking the motor until I could get into a shop was the only solution Newmar had for me. I took a lot of ribbing about getting in and out of the new rig for a month with a stepladder!
Took two trips to different Newmar dealers to get it sorted. First one (unnamed, but in GJ, CO) basically told me I was crazy and there was nothing wrong. "No way the module could leak because it's sealed" were their exact words. Then when the steps started their dance again driving in the rain near Tucson I took it in to Freedom RV. At first I got the raised eyebrow, but kudos to the service tech John, he soaked the control module with water and let it sit a bit. When he checked later they were doing their thing. One new control module later they have worked flawlessly for 2 years.
Hope this helps someone.

I've had to drive about 400 miles with the steps out. First stay away from anything on the passenger side.
I've has many tell me that are out.
At the next night's stop I found they were jammed out. But fixable.
