Steel Straps Under the Slide

There are steel straps with holes in the underside of the slides (visible from under the slide when extended) on our new Ventana. They are held on with very short screws and several are sheared off. I have to believe this is a problem but I canít find any information on them. There is plenty about poorly torqued or broken motor bolts but nothing that I can find on the flat straps.

I would appreciate any guidance on what they are and how much of a problem I may have.

The straps with holes are where the cogs on the slide axles interlock to move the slides in and out
I have had a number of screws break on our 2014 Ventana. I just figured Newmar got a batch of defective screws.
Sorry to hear problem has extended to 2021
Suggest replacing as they fail - fair amount of torque on these plates

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought that may be the case. I can’t believe that such a light duty screw was used for this application. Thanks again.

I had the same problem on my 2014 MADP. I replaced them with stainless steel-almost 3X tensile strength (shear) self taping screws one size larger - if memory serves me correctly they were #10- and they won't rust. I had to drill out the holes in the cog plates as well as enlarge the counter sinks for the larger head screws.

After doing this the Newmar techs told me that what breaks the screws is the slide is out of sync on opening & closing & should be readjusted using the slide controller in the basement.

Happy Trails

You tube video

I recently saw a "you tube " video that showed the same problem as you describe. It was one of the many vids by full timers. I would bet if you went to YOU TUBE and put your problem in, the search engine could find it. Sorry I cant remember (CRS bad) the name of the couples videos. Keep looking you will find it as well as HIS solution for temporary repairs Jim75

Pretty Disappointed

Well the saga continues. I tightened the screws that were loose but didnít have the time or tools to extract the broken ones. We found several more broken lying on the floor. When we pulled the slide in there was a clanking sound once it was retracted. We dropped it by the dealer today on the return trip. After looking a little closer it does not appear that any of the slides are working correctly. The FWS appears to be misaligned and all of them make a lot of creaking and popping noises. This is our 6th unit and we have not heard these kind of noises before.

For a supposedly high quality unit itís pretty disappointing.
